Michelle_Richer
I was surprised to see that such a thread didn’t exist so I have opened this one to allow the different interpretation of the rules as they evolve. I personally already have an issue that require clarification associated with Step 2 (not before 12 April) of the Governments roadmap https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-response-spring-2021/covid-19-response-spring-2021-summary Which states “Indoor leisure facilities such as gyms will also reopen (but only for use by people on their own or in household groups)” My perspective on this is, does a person on their own receiving rehearsal coaching qualify under the definition of “ for use by people on their own” I have enquiry's running with both the The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity and EMD UK both are waiting clarification from the DCMS Ive checked out RAD at : https://www.royalacademyofdance.org/coronavirus-guidance/restrictions-in-the-uk/ What the Roadmap Means for Dance Following the Prime Ministers announcement of the Government’s four-step roadmap for cautiously easing lockdown restrictions in England, we advise RAD teachers and students to plan on the following basis: Step 1 – 8 March onwards: RAD Faculty of Education students will be provided with information directly from the Faculty of Education staff. Step 2 – no earlier than 12 April: a return to in-person dance classes for children and young people, under the age of 18. And video-assessments (exams) can begin again for under 18s only. Step 3 – no earlier than 17 May: a return to in-person examinations for all age groups. And a return to in-person dance classes for Adults (over 18s) Note: in-person indoor activities may only resume in Covid-safe premises. I've also checked out the ISTD at : https://www.istd.org/discover/news/2021/february/latest-coronavirus-announcement/ Step 2: At least 5 weeks after Step 1, no earlier than 12 April. Indoor leisure open for use individually or within household groups Rule of 6 / two households outside, no indoor mixing Outside attractions, All children’s activities indoor parent and child groups Minimise travel Step 3: At least 5 weeks after Step 2, no earlier than 17 May Indoor entertainment and attractions 30 person limit outdoors Rule of 6 or two households indoors (subject to review) Organised indoor adult sport Some large events Step 4: At least 5 weeks after Step 3, no earlier than 21 June. No limits on social contacts, Larger events Do please add information and links as it becomes available.
Peony
I must admit that I haven’t really bothered to look much this time and will just wait and see! The rule of six outside and end of ‘stay at home’ (continue to minimise travel) is 29th March rather than 12th April though I think?
NeverTooOld
On the plus side, we now have some clear dates albeit pending the numbers continuing to go in the right direction. However, as the only adult in a class of teens, the plan means that the rest of my class can start back in April but I won't be able to join them until May! Haven't heard from the dance school yet so not sure what their plans are but looks like I'll be practising at home with the DVD for a while as I'm guessing that means Zoom classes will stop if most can be back at the studio. Might see if the teacher can do a live feed from the class so I can join at home but camera angles will have to be careful as none of the under 18s will be able to be filmed. Guessing this will be OK if only the teacher appears. Interested to hear from any teachers on here with a similar situation to see how they will handle it. Jewel
I've been reading all the guidance in detail and although some of the wording isn't always clear most teachers I know are interpreting it to men that 1:1 classes can not go ahead until May for adults. Gyms and dance studios can open for use by people on their own from April but if a person is providing 1:1 coaching indoors (outdoors will be permitted) then they are not on their own. Gyms re-open, but no group classes. look at the RAD response: adult dance classes are scheduled for resumption no earlier than 17 May. if you and your coach are not in a household group, you can’t meet indoors until that date in May at the earliest. I’ve been training one to one with a PT throughout lockdown but we work outside and maintain 2m distance (usually more) all the time. It’s indoors that’s the issue for group classes and things that mix households.

Kate_N
I'm not sure what you're asking. If you read the regulations, one to one outside training sessions held outdoors and socially distanced, (between 2 people not in the same household, obviously) are permitted. Gyms are likely to re-open on 12 April, but group classes unlikely to resume until after 17 May. It's all there in the regulations. Children are being treated differently to adults because there's evidence to suggest that they don't become as ill as adults if they catch C-19, although they are a vector of community transmission. I suppose it's the government's balancing of public health risks of the novel Corona virus against the public health risks of a cohort of children denied many aspects of education and socialisation for a year. Group classes were not permitted under the tiers system as it was impossible to ensure social distancing. Mixing households indoors is a really good way for the virus to spread - have a look at Erin Bromage's blogs on this. He wrote a blog very early on in the pandemic and it's still a good explanation for the layperson (he's a US-based epidemiologist).
Kate_N
Here's a link to Dr Bromage's blog. It's a really readable guide to the science epidemiologists have been doing. https://www.erinbromage.com/post/the-risks-know-them-avoid-them
glowlight
I love this article @kate_N. I remember reading it back in the first lock down and it really helped me to get control on some of my panic and put things into perspective. This article published by the government at the end of last year makes interesting reading along similar lines. Particularly the risk tables at the end. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/phe-factors-contributing-to-risk-of-sars-cov2-transmission-in-various-settings-26-november-2020 For me this helps to understand some of the decisions which have been made.

Ditto! But it also made me realise that large groups of people mixing indoors was something to avoid!!

Michelle_Richer
Personal training sessions can take place inside a gym or leisure facility on a 1:1 basis, or with one household, as of today 12 April.
