All streaming Nutcrackers

Recommended Posts

I loved PNB’s bold-colored designs...a refreshing update to NYCB’s 1964 Karinska/Ter Arutunians...and wonderful integration of the opening animations during the overture with the first real-life scene.

I’m a major fan of both Leta Biasucci (Sugar Plum) & Angelica Generosa (Marzipan lead), so no complaints!

On the whole, NYCB is more precise but PNB generates the most warmth.

Of the three Balanchine Nutcrackers I’ve seen - NYCB, Royal Danish and PNB - this (PNB) is my keeper!

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the Czech National Ballet's Nutcracker (2017) is available for free at Ovation TV, found it under one of the media links Jan posted.

 https://www.ovationtv.com/watch/battle-of-the-nutcrackers/czech-national-ballet-the-nutcracker-2017/

Ballet Zurich's 2018 Nutcracker seems only available in the US, and the Mariinsky's 2012 Nutcracker is also available, but this is already on YT.

Czech National Ballet is also streaming their 'Nutcracker-A Christmas Carol' free on YT from 21 Dec-27 Dec.

Direct link to the Hungarian Ballet’s Nutcracker, which live-streamed earlier today (but I couldn’t access to save my life...most confusing). This one expires at midnight, Budapest time... “midnight tomorrow,” they write...not sure if that’s within three or 27 hours as of now.

Hope this works. If not, try searching Operahaz Facebook page directly. You shouldn’t have to download any special app. Grrr.

Opera House website says "Please note that this performance is only available to watch from 3:00 p.m. on 24 December 2020 until midnight on 25 December 2020."

It worked for me just now https://www.facebook.com/Operahaz/videos/822656994949607.  Performance starts about 12 minutes in.

May also be able to access it by registering and obtaining a free ticket

Thanks! I saw it earlier today but now others can see it too. It’s quite a luxurious, languidly-paced version...with some elements of the earlier Eagling takes (like the skating in front of the house, during opening; the updated Vainonen snow & Flower ensembles) but a lot of new material. No “slave Fritz” during the Arabian dance, as in Dutch Natl Ballet!

The Wiener Staatsoper will be showing a Nutcracker from 2018 both tomorrow & on 4th January. Natascha Mair is in the cast, presumably as Clara, so it might be interesting to see what she is like in it compared to in ENB's recent Nutcracker.

Thanks Dawnstar, I just watched this and thought Natascha Mair was wonderful in it. An unusual production though, by Nureyev - is this the same version as in the recent Royal Ballet DVD reissue?

There was lots of excitement at the end, following a speech in German that I'm afraid I didn't understand. Was Mair receiving a promotion?

Thanks Sim, I think it said December 2018. I was wondering if it was a farewell initially, but she seemed surprised and overwhelmed. Perhaps she just wasn't expecting to be the centre of attention! Well, any more than she would expect after dancing the lead role!

I've not watched it yet, as I was busy watching something else this evening, but her biography on ENB's website says:

Career highlights
Being promoted to Principal after a performance of Nutcracker (Nurejew) on stage by Manuel Legris

So I'd guess that is what is shown in the video.
