Does it work worldwide?  The webpage refers to families in New England.

It does in Japan. But it was not a full one, condensed into about 50 minutes.  Anyway a delightful performance with their famous bear.

Thanks, Naomi M. That’s what I thought...not the complete work. Almost all US ballet troupes offering digital Nutcrackers are offering only condensed versions (“A Nutcracker Experience”). They’re not giving away the whole candy shop, so to speak, whether for free or for a fee. It’s their most treasured commodity, after all.

It’s a rarity for a US troupe to offer an entire digital Nutcracker.  I know only of two, both with the Balanchine: Pacific NW Ballet and NYCB. I’ve opted for Pacific NW to see the newer designs.

Do feel free to add them to the Community Calendar :)

Alison, I just made my first entry into Community Calendar - Dec 6 3pm eastern US - Washington Ballet’s 40-minute free “Nutcracker Tea Party.” I’ll do it for one-time simple free events such as this. Too complex if it involves fees with multiple options, sorry!

I realize that there are many COVID-era shortened Nutcrackers and other family-friendly films out there. I’ll just share one from The Washington Ballet that features  an especially wondrous, traditional Sugar Plum Fairy solo by their leading ballerina Katherine Barkman (at the 24-minute mark)...and doesn’t she have a bit of a “Fonteyn Vibe” to her look?

ABT streamed the grand pas de deux from Ratmansky's version of the Nutcracker:

this was lovely. Have any of the companies been doing their live broadcasts in this style rather than a wide shot of the stage? I’m not really a fan of ballet on the small screen but needs must and there are now so many Nutcrackers to choose from! I’ve seen RB and NYCB live. Wasn’t  that keen on the NYCB production. Would anyone like to make a recommendation?

I thought BRB's production looked impressive when I saw it live at the Birmingham Hippodrome last year but today Samara Downs posted a photo on Instagram of the Act 1 set in the Birmingham Rep & it looks less impressive than I remember so I'm wondering if they've had to downsize it, given the Rep is smaller than the Hippodrome.

The Hungarian National Ballet will stream a film of their complete Nutcracker (Eagling et al version) on 24 December, 15:00 local time, via their FB page. Free. Details here:

Link to additional details and full cast, in English. This appears to be a unique staging by Wayne Eagling and Tomas Solymosi, in tribute to Vainonen...not Eagling’s previous staging for the Dutch.

Not strictly a streaming performance but I have just enjoyed the 1993 film of New York City Ballet with some dancers from the past including  Darci Kistler, Kyra Nichols and the wonderful Wendy Whelan as coffee (Arabian). It’s on Netflix and is a lovely watch.
