Wild Card is a pioneering Sadler’s Wells initiative that gives young artists the opportunity to present the work of their choice in the Lilian Baylis Studio. Three times a season invited artists will have the chance to put together a special programme of performances, fully supported by the theatre.

The first production in the Wild Card initiative is from BELLYFLOP, a London-based online magazine run by eight dance artists whose writing activity runs parallel to their contemporary dance and performance practices. On Thursday 17 and Friday 18 January they present The BELLY of the Beast, two programmes of work from these contributors alongside guest artists.

On Tuesday 12 February Dan Canham will present his work, 30 Cecil Street alongside a new piece featuring performance artist Augusto Corrieri, Pig Dyke and a group of 18 Molly dancers. Canham as performed with companies including DV8 Physical Theatre and Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre.

Completing the Wild Card imitative this season is dancer/choreographer and founding member of BirdGang Dance Company, Ivan Blackstock who presents his new work on Thursday 14 March. Inviting dancers from his company, and with live music, he transforms the spaces in and around the theatre in a strange and startling way.

Emma Gladstone, Artistic Programmer and Producer at Sadler’s Wells says of Wild Card: “It’s exciting to open up the Lilian Baylis Studio to a new generation of creative artists interested in presenting and programming work. We look forward to hosting these talented artists at the theatre in 2013.”

Wild Card is supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and The Eranda Foundation. Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Trustee Madeleine Lloyd Webber says: “We are delighted to be the first donor to Wild Card Sadler’s Wells’ new initiative for young, emerging artists. A huge priority for the Foundation is helping nurture young talent in order to secure the country’s artistic future and Sadler’s Wells provides an established and expert environment for this excellent scheme. It’s important that organisations and individuals who feel the arts are an integral part of our country’s fabric help fund such fundamental projects themselves.”
