News of non-dancing children.....

Great news Lottie and chartered accountants are the best! (Biased, I know!)

As for Nottingham Julie, DD will have a ball! It's a wonderful city and fab campus. Though I must admit part if me is dreading this time next year - DD is up in Loughborough as we speak, ready for their open day tomorrow. Hard to imagine this time next year she'll be moving out - it's going to fly by, but it's the next stage in their lives and we have to let them fly, even if we really want to clip their wings!

Good luck tomorrow!

Thanks :-)

(she's not on the main campus - they have a separate one at Sutton Bonington but they have a free shuttle bus into Nottingham)

Having had one leave already I don't think I'm too bad about her leaving, but "empty nest syndrome" will probably set in next year when my youngest goes!

I'm just waiting for her to finish getting stuff together then we'd better start squeezing it all in the car. Thank goodness for estate cars.

(edited with thanks to Janet for pointing out a very dodgy autocorrect - lol)

Julie W - hope you got all your daughters things in your car and she's settled into her halls.

We have a large hatchback and have to use a roof box as well when we move our two about. Also we use some bags to put bedding and clothes into and then vacuum them down to reduce them in size so we can get even more stuff in!

Just Ballet - thanks.

We're really pleased for her to. She will have to decide, by next year, on which accountancy exam board to follow which will depend on what type of career in accountancy she wants to follow.

Daughter well and truly settled into her course, seems to be loving it, and decided, rather than join the dance society, that she would take up rugby! Seems to have a flair for it and is on the team :-)

That's lovely Taxi :-)

We've had an exciting week. Youngest ds has applied for Speech and Language Therapy degree courses and this week he's heard from 2, both offering him interviews :-). So at least we know his personal statement was decent as this is their first stage of shortlisting! First one next week in Manchester - never been there before. Very pleased for him as I sometimes feel he lives in his siblings shadows.

Also dd sent me message today saying she'd passed her dog animal handling exam with "excellence" - partly due to the practice she's had with ours, so she said. The dog was a bit naughty but she sorted him out :-D

Oh, and oldest ds is going into work for first ballet class since op in early September - fingers crossed it goes well

:D .........well it's funny you should mention that ad as just a couple of days a go I stopped partner talking mid flow as I saw it come on "oh look it's that Baileys ad just a minute, just want to see...it's got loads of Royal Ballet dancers in it"

Poor thing......he wouldn't know one Royal dancer from another.....though he does recognise Darcey and Sylvie!!

Not sure he was overly impressed!

Where tipples are concerned well today is my birthday so will definitely have one (or two!) But also both this week and possibly most of next can't dance as have "minor injury around L3-4"..... according to Osteo yesterday...so have been having more tipple than usual to "take the edge off" is my excuse!

Actually am considering trying some Baileys again and use lots of ice as some have suggested though it probably piles on the pounds by the nano ounce!!

Have a feeling partner....whose hand is usually nearest the remote....will change the channel quickly next time it comes on!!!

A nice bit of news for non-dd as she applied for and has just heard she has the position of Team Leader where she works.  Considering how unwell she is and the mishaps of getting her to the interview on Tuesday, very pleased.  She will now get 37 hours of work/week instead of 16 hours and when she gets the date for her op she will now get sick pay.  It's just nice that something has gone right for her.  She now needs the date for her op and to pass her driving test.  Hopefully I can hang up my Taxi hat - until dd comes home for the holidays :)

Hi LinMM.  She hasn't had the MRCP yet but she is convinced she will have the gall bladder out.  She wants it out and she seemed to feel that the hospital were saying it would have to come out.  They just need to know where the gallstone she has passed has gone.  She's gone a bit yellow so it could be stuck somewhere. Results of blood test done yesterday back tomorrow. She is going to have time off work so it would be nice of she can get some sick pay.  She's already had a week off without pay.

Personally I would rather there was some other way, I don't want her to undergo a procedure, even if it is a laparoscopy and not too invasive.  Unfortunately I think surgery and removal is the only option.  I shall need to be on tranquilisers!

We have a date for the MRI which is 10 February.  She's gone an interesting shade of yellow and is getting fed up of people commenting on it. She has also lost an incredible amount of weight which again she is fed up of people commenting about. Another side effect is that she is very itchy and is constantly scratching.  And she won't get sick pay.  She is getting very negative and I'm trying to be positive.  To be honest, she'd lie down on the operating table right his minute to get rid of the gallbladder so that she could feel well again.  I just want her to feel better as she is so miserable.  I'm hoping that in a few months we can sit and crack a few jokes about some of this, and I think a shopping trip is in order to make the most of the lovely figure she now has!

Oh, poor young woman. Why can't people keep their unkind and all too personal remarks to themselves? I also wish the doctors would get on with it instead of dragging it out like this to your poor daughter's detriment.

Feel so sorry for your daughter,Porthesia. I too had gallstones, although nobody knew. Kept having blood tests ,just routine ones, and they kept coming back that my liver profile was high.  I kept having to swear blindly to my GP that I never, ever drink alcohol, but he couldn`t understand what was wrong with my liver. Then I took a very severe bout of vomiting that lasted for 3 days, not even able to keep a single sip of water down.Went literally over the road from me to my GP`s surgery on the Monday morning and he  told me i looked Jaundiced. He phoned the hospital asking if they had a bed. When at hospital they took more blood samples and my liver profile came back "deranged" .Was taken straight up to the Intensive Care Ward.Tests showed Gallstones, but I had in the end an ultrasound scan,a CT scan and an MRI scan. The doctor knew about the gallstones, but he also thought there was something else going on as well. The gallstones, because it hadn`t been detected early enough had developed into Gallstone Pancreatitis. I was admitted to hospital on seven further occasions, ranging from staying two nights up to ten nights. When an attack flared up i could keep nothing down and had to be admitted and given intravenous drips every time for dehydration and also antibiotics. I got the impression they were holding back from removing my gallbladder,as if they were just waiting to see how things developed. When i asked them straight they told me that this was exactly what they were doing. They wanted to leave the surgery [with a Pancreatic Specialist] as late as possible to give the pancreas time to go down back to its normal size. In the meantime I just had to keep on suffering with almost continuous vomiting, and no-one here to look after my then 13 year old son. To cut a long story short the Pancreatic consultant [there are only 2 in the whole of Northern Ireland] cut me open to get a look, not only at the gallbladder which was coming out anyway but also behind it at the Pancreas. I have a HUGE scar across my abdomen, which took 28 staples to close. When I tell people I had my gallbladder removed, they assume it`s keyhole surgery i`m talking about. Then If i show them the size of my scar they nearly keel over in shock.!!  It`s a good job my days of being a Paris Showgirl in skimpy costumes are over.!! The best of luck to your daughter, and i hope I haven`t scared you.!!!

Oh your poor DD Porthesia.  I hope she is at least painfree.  I presume the MRI is to find out where the gallstone already passed has lodged itself.  Hopefully, that will mean less surgery and a quicker recovery post op but it doesn't make the waiting any less of an ordeal.  Sending you both hugs and hoping your DD is soon sorted and back to her normal self.

Aah thank you everyone for your kind wishes and non-dd says thank you for all your kind wishes as well.

thequays, Gallstone Pancreatitis is the condition we are hoping to avoid, and having read your description of what happened to you I really, really hope it doesn't get to that. My how you suffered.  DD is lucky in that she does feel nauseous at times but has not actually been sick. She's had a good day today and feels better.

Hi Jane, thank you for asking.  The MRI went well.  She does suffer from claustrophobia and had opened her eyes and saw just how close everything is but she managed to hang on - must have been the longest 20 minutes ever!  We have to wait 2 weeks for the results.  On this particular day her skin was not as yellow has it has been - we had hoped this might have precipitated an earlier op but she was nowhere near her normal yellow colour!  Its a case of waiting now.  She's still scratching which is driving me mad!
