oliviaT Posted February 19, 2020 Share Posted February 19, 2020 Hello I’m looking for a list of fully funded (through student finance) dance degree courses. Unfortunately we have now had to rule out courses with a dada so this is limiting the options. Also we are probably ruling out the partially funded degree courses at this stage. Looking for dance courses not classical ballet - but specialist dance colleges rather than a university based degree with fewer contact hours. So far we have Bird Performers Urdang Addict Possibly Wilkes (I think they are waiting for approval for their degree course) Preston’s Lipa If anyone has any other suggestions we would really like to hear about them so we can start thinking about next years auditions. There are close links with the school and the BA students spend a lot of time on site with the Dada students. All details are on the school’s website. This is one we could look into further. Her strength is Jazz / musical theatre style dance. But singing is not her thing at all. Littleone Posted February 19, 2020 Share Posted February 19, 2020 Hi Olivia I believe that Emil Dale are now offering an MT degree and also Chichester University - both with student finance . Although Chichester is a Uni based course I have heard it offers a similar number of contact hours to the schools above. My Daughter auditioned at Urdang, Bird, Performers and LIPA last year so am happy to try and answer any questions re the audition process at any of those - daughter is home this week so I can ask her !😀 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Harwel Posted February 19, 2020 Share Posted February 19, 2020 Please be careful as some colleges, though their courses are funded by degree loans also have top up fees. Urdang is one such college. The degree loan covers 2 terms, if the student wishes to do the 3rd term (show term) there is a top up to bring it in line with the same cost as the diploma students. This is not clear on the website - in fact I’m not sure it’s mentioned at all. There are some very interesting YouTube accounts from students that attend various colleges, worth looking into. Emil Dale do a degree course. First lot of graduates graduating this year. This is a triple threat course with equal time spent on all 3 disciplines. Again there is a top up fee of approx £3k. I have been absent from the forum for a little while as my eldest DS graduated Tring last year but has gone on to pursue a different career and I needed to take a step back. However, I now find myself with my youngest DS who is about to go to full time MT training in September - what did I do to deserve this!!!? No top up, no 3rd term. They do offer some students bursaries to cover the top up costs but not everyone of course. if you are looking at more MT, triple threat training also look into Guildford School of Acting at university of Surrey - amazing course in MT, degree funding, many industry professionals and 30-40 contact hours a week. My Daughter is currently in first year BA and there is now an 'optional' third term which consists of rehearsals for the summer show ( 1st and 2nd year degree and diploma) for which there is no charge. My daughter, and I believe most of her friends are planning on opting in to the summer show not surprisingly ! I believe they also offer some masterclasses during this time which again are optional and for which there is a charge. My daughter and her friends attend open classes at other studios in London which are reaosnably priced so I expect she will fill any free time with these and opt in to some at Urdang too . I'll have a look at your PM Now Olivia 😀 oh that’s interesting - I would imagine there was some backlash as it seemed rather underhand to me. I think the biggest area of confusion is around funding which is not helped when schools are not transparent. to the OP. I would also strongly consider student support services. Finances are important to make sure it’s viable in the first place but emotional support for students living away from home, probably the the first time ever in a highly competitive field is of vital importance. There have been far too many cases of young adults not getting the support they need and in time. Ask as many questions as you can about this area - parents can get tied up with wanting their children to follow their dreams and are so grateful for an offer/any offer and this is the time parents need to be parents. We MUST look at the pitfalls in a critical and detached way. Some MT schools take in huge numbers in one year group. They split them into smaller groups but have they increased the numbers of student support staff? Do the colleges take note of students that are missing and follow up? Some colleges have 2 streams - 1 is the one they believe will make it, the other is funding the college. Take off any rose coloured goggles - the industry is overrun with talent and the colleges are businesses - parents have to be the voice of reason in all of this. it is wonderful for our DC to follow their dreams but mental health issues are rife in the performing arts world and they need great care and attention. Look into MTA and the guidelines the principle has put in place. Hopefully more and more colleges are following these guidelines. 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Pups mum - LSC is definitely somewhere she would consider if finances were not a barrier but unfortunately it won’t be possible. I don’t want her to audition anywhere unless we can somehow make it work financially GSA - we haven’t looked at this. London will cost more to live though travel may be less if closer/easier. Weigh up all the pros/cons fir each course. Do a cross reference finance sheet... Good luck!
