Pointytoes22 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I read Darcey Bussells autobiography over summer and loved it and so am keen to read more. Has anyone read/heard of other autobiographies by ballet dancers which might be good for me to read?
Jan McNulty Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Have you read Li Cun Xin's Mao's Last Dancer? It is an inspirational read. I also very much enjoyed Margot Fonteyn's and Suzanne Farrell's plus Romola Nijinsky's biography of her husband Vaslav Nijinsky.
Anjuli_Bai Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I would add the autobio's of: Edward Villella Valery Panov Maya Plisetskaya
Paul Arrowsmith Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Bronislava Nijinska Early Memories - wish that her later ones had made it into print. Gelsey Kirkland Dancing on my Grave.
jm365 Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 If you are interested in the history of ballet, Tamara Karsavina's autobiography 'Theatre Street' is fascinating.
Anjuli_Bai Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 ...and of course the wonderful classic autobio: "Dancing in Petersburg" by Imperial Prima Ballerina Mathilde Kschessinskaya.
Paul Arrowsmith Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Lydia Sokolova Dancing for Diaghilev.
Anjuli_Bai Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Sir Anton Dolin's biography of "The Sleeping Ballerina - Olga Spessivetsiva." "Holding on to the Air" by Susanne Farrell
alymer Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Don't think I would take Kchessinska's autobiography as entirely reliable though, entertaining as it is.
Anjuli_Bai Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Don't think I would take Kchessinska's autobiography as entirely reliable though, entertaining as it is. I would agree with that - but it can also be said about most autobiographies.
tim b Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Just tripped over this topic and would like to add Lynn Seymour and Marguerite Porter
