SarahBallet 1 Posted November 7 I am wondering which Summer Schools people recommend for a 15 year old (as a precursor to Upper school application year)? Has anyone been/ applied for the Vaganova Academy by video please?
Anna C 12,181 Posted November 7 If I remember rightly, dd did as two summer schools aged 15 (we couldn’t afford any more!). She was an Associate at one of the schools so we didn’t bother with their summer school. I think she did London Childrens’ Ballet for fun and performance, followed by Elmhurst as that was the school she was least familiar with.
Picturesinthefirelight 3,714 Posted November 7 Dd just did Tring (and hated it so didn't apply) the year before she had done Bird College and OPES.
SarahBallet 1 Posted November 7 Thank you. Goodness - I hear such amazing things about Tring - why did she hate it?
FlexyNexy 67 Posted November 7 Hi SarahBallet i previously commented on summer schools in other post, so will copy and paste. My DD did Vaganova summer course in Alicante and loved it. Also I have noticed that NKBS are doing winter course and there is potential to audition for Vaganova summer school in Italy (Julia Kasenkova is attending). As your DD is 15 she fit's in the age the winter course is aimed for. From my DD experience I could recommend the following: UK Malvern/ OPES – for spring intensive ENBS - tried spring and summer - not one for her, her feedback was 'ok to socialise not demanding enough', also placed in incorrect lower group so was not challenging enough She has tried first time RB this summer but said is was good but not demanding enough Portugal The National Conservatory Dance School - https://www.eadcn.pt/en/ - very high standard of dancers, great lessons Spain - summer IB Stage - Barcelona Russian Masters Ballet Camp in Alicante Centre de Dansa de Catalunya - Catalunya USA - tried only summer Ellison Ballet – would recommend both programmes - Variations and PDD (very demanding classes and kids actually work and sweat) The Alvin Ailey – fantastic teachers!

My DD did a Tring summer school and didn't like it either. She felt she didn't learn anything and everyone was just there to have fun and mess around! DD did Laine summer school this year and loved it. She felt she'd learnt alot and they were pushed!
SarahBallet 1 Posted November 7 That is such a shame - I guess different people want different things though. Thank you FlexiNexy really helpful. Sorry do you mean that you can audition for Vaganova through NKBS?

Peanut68 961 Posted November 7 Thank you.... have heard name... is that UK based? Winter course sounds interesting as most seem to be overseas so out of our budget
Peanut68 961 Posted November 7 Would like to give 👍🏻 for YBS summer school too.... I do know some who feel it’s not always as hard work or intense or as many hours of daily dancing as some others but I rather like the fact that it’s quite social, fun & perhaps more a dancing holiday at a time when youngsters are perhaps ready to have some downtime & enjoy dance without the pressure of auditions/assessments/exams/shows. “All work & no play makes Jack a dull boy” as the saying goes.... Dancing Kitty 12 Posted November 7 Don't have any personal experience but you can audition for the Bolshoi Ballet Academy at Ballet Theatre UK this year so no need for the dreaded video. http://www.russianballetinternational.com/auditions/auditions-cities/leicester-2/

Dance*is*life 1,892 Posted November 9 YBSS in York is excellent. Extremely high standard, great teachers and wonderful master classes in the evening. Lovely atmosphere and challenging too. If she can get in there, I recommend it even though it doesn't lead on to an upper dchool.
