Front of house? 🤔 ...I meant front desk obviously (Upper School at Covent Garden) not the ticket office, lol.
It’s been a tiring day, tipped over the edge by that bit of drama with the email, haha. Got my hopes up on something we’d assumed was pretty much a no (not holding on to any expectation of DS being offered a place while on the wait list).

On a more serious note though, it was very poorly worded - I do hope they sort the email issues out soon though as there seems to have been a number of problems regarding contact about the intensive courses. Usually RB are very good with their communication (in our experience with JAs and some other bits, at least).

I am going to add new summer ballet school in Acosta Danza, Havana....maybe some will find it of interest and combine their holidays:

Wow what an opportunity for those lucky enough to be able to go!! Am a bit confused looking at web info.... it prices it per week yet does look like the expectation is to attend the full 4 weeks (she gulps at sheer price & logistics of course!!) Flexy, do you know any more?

Acosta Danza, Havana summer intensive looks amazing.  It is probably modelled on the US intensives which are often very long as the summer vacations in US are still 2 - 3 months long.  Likewise in Europe, many countries have much longer summer holidays than UK so this would be attractive for example to dancers from Spain.  It says it is limited to 30 dancers, so will probably be very competative to get a place.

Hi Peanut

Regret don't know more details,  it was shared to me by a friend that her DD attends their school.  Price looks similar to summer intensives in USA. When my DD attended Ellison, we have paid over 3k for 2 weeks (in instalments). This however i see includes accommodation. Without a doubt it will be amazing if one could afford that.

ENBS - tried sping and summer - not one for her, her feedback was 'ok to socialise not demanding enough', also placed in incorrect lower group so was not challenging enough

She has tried first time RB this summer but said is was good but not demanding enough

Anyone here able to give feedback on the ENB Summer Course?  After the experience of being at what I took to be the upper end of a very long wait-list last year we were pleasantly surprised to get an offer this year.  However we are having second thoughts after hearing a few stories about chaotic timetabling, some uninspiring teachers etc.  last year.  We are also now not sure if it being non-residential will work for us.

@FlexyNexy - we agree with your comment on RBS but are assuming that as they get older there will be more hours of dance.  Which age group was your DD when she attended?  We felt there wasn't enough ballet content compared to other courses.  Just trying to gauge if your DD is at the same stage of training for us to be comparable.

she was 16 (last year summer course), all very pretty, made friends etc but found the course not demanding enough. Comparing it with Ellison or summer in Portugal. Incoparable. She did not enjoy the contemporary part at all (just walking around in circle). This year she is in Prague did not want to apply anyhting in UK.

Thank you.  The dates for Ellison intensive is too early for us.  I wasn't able to work out how the classes worked for Portugal.  Do you sign up for individual classes?  We may take a look at this.

Can't give you feedback on last year as we too were in the long waitlist queue!  However DD has been before and loved it.  High standard of ballet and teaching - prefers this to RBS.  I see that have upped the age to apply and I also read they are having smaller size classes.  Sounds like they are making changes so I would be open to trying again.

DD1 attended in 2018 having just turned 14 and really enjoyed it. The classes we were invited to watch at the end of the week (in those days you only had to do one week) appeared to be of high standard with high quality teaching and attention to individuals - pretty strict too. We aren't in a position to do more than one week in the summer so haven't applied since then.

I’ve heard London Ballet Masterclasses is doing an Easter course and summer school this year. My daughter’s friend went to one of theirs last year and absolutely loved it! Very good teachers and programmes. Definitely recommend to anyone who is interested!

Hello Debbie and welcome to the Forum!

I have merged your post into the existing thread about Easter and Summer intensives.

Does anyone know when elmhurst ss applications close?

My understanding is that they fill the places as the applications come in.  Just started to look at the application myself and couldn't see a date.  Last time we looked to apply it was the same.  Hopefully someone might know more.  I am interested to hear how quick they respond.  Looking to book a holiday and don't want to wait too long!

My Dd attended ENB  2018 and 2019. They were like 2 completely different summer schools and experiences. The first year was well organised with great teaching ( Ist year school teacher + other superb teachers) and a parent watching day at the end of the week. My Dd felt she had improved heaps and was inspired to give her best the whole 2 weeks.

The second time was badly organised, some days not starting until 11.30 am and other days finishing by 3pm. No routine and mediocre, uninspiring teachers. No parent watching at the end of the week.  Whether the changes in leadership and the prospect of moving premises had an effect, I’m not sure. I’m positive,  now the changes have taken place, everything will be back to normal. Both times, the class sizes were huge with very little room to do the exercises properly on the barre so hopefully they have sorted that issue.

Thank you - this pretty much confirms what we have been told.

The great plans for the 2019 course never came off and the loss of teachers and administrators (never mind lack or leadership) would have contributed greatly.  For this summer they have reduced the class sizes and have offered it to a reduced age range and it will be in their lovely new building.

Does your DD plan to attend this year or have you been put off?

Not really put off exactly but wishing to try something different this year.
