Crystaltip
Good Afternoon, I have been lurking quite a bit but this is my first post. Does anyone have any experience of the Ballet Academy/ Hochschule für Musik and Theater in Munich? Best Regards,

Anna C
Hello Crystaltip and welcome from me too. As far as I can see we only have one other thread about Munich Ballet Academy and it is a couple of years old but it may be worth a read:
DD Driver
A friend’s daughter who went there at 16 found them very good. Be aware that the assessments, at that stage anyway, are very... shall I say blunt.
Boys_can_dance
Yes, my son was there 2017/18, but was only 11 at the time. The teaching was very good, the organization was terrible. How old is your dancer? I’d really not say they’re set up for foreign students less than 16 years old. As for blunt, you’ll find that’s the case throughout Germany, they don’t really beat around the bush much. Has the advantage that you pretty much know where you stand, but can be a culture shock for Brits. (Applies not only to ballet, just the way things are, definitely culturally very different). Munich is somewhat rough in the handling of the students at times, and not great at resolving conflict, and definitely not up there when it comes to managing mobbing/ bullying. We removed lock, stock and barrel to Hamburg after only a year in Munich, DS much prefers it here. That may be because a lot of the teaching staff are American or British, but also I find the whole setup much more organized and approachable. Very true as a general rule, I think. And the Brits' habit of ... beating around the bush ... is equally baffling/annoying to Germans, I think! I believe it can make business meetings quite difficult unless both sides adjust their perceptions a bit.
Crystaltip
Thanks for the all the replies. We decided to wait a while and stay where we are. Will maybe try out their summer school next year and see how that is.
Boys_can_dance
I’d honestly try Stuttgart or Hamburg or Berlin over Munich. But, when all is said and done, the teaching is excellent.
