Dawnstar
(This is another thread inspired by a few commments on the Romeo & Juliet thread so if it is one spin-off too many then Moderators feel free to remove.) Over my 18 months or so of reading this board I have seen various comments along the lines of it being a pity that, because of the Royal Ballet's mix-and-match approach to partnering, some dancers who are excellent together in one ballet then don't appear again opposite each other for months/years. Most recently about Naghdi/Ball and O'Sullivan/Sambe in the Romeo & Juliet thread. So I was wondering, if you could change Royal Ballet policy and pair dancers up in permanent partnerships then who would you put together? As this is fantasy partnerships, injury issues can be ignored! (And if anyone wants to do it for other companies too then feel free.)
penelopesimpson
I so wish that the disparity in their ages means we will not see the development of a Watson/Hayward partnership which I think could have been sublime.
JohnS
Many thanks Penelope - I’m just very pleased to recall Francesca Hayward’s Manon debut with Edward Watson. Fingers crossed for an injury free next season etc and that there will be some further opportunities to see Watson/Hayward together on stage.
penelopesimpson
Yes, I saw that performance to, John S. It was wonderful. He was such a supportive partner and they both give so much emotion to their roles. I am feeling gloomy about seeing Watson in much of anything anymore.
