Summer School Dilemma

Hi all

We are looking for a summer school for my DD that doesn't require an audition and is open to recreational dancers. She loves ballet, and is currently working at RAD Grade 6 and Intermediate after moving from a previous school which kept her from progressing at all. She doesn't want to be professional, but wants to be the best she dancer she can be. Ideally the location would be Yorkshire or Scotland due to family reasons. Any suggestions?

Ballet West maybe worth a look. My DD attended the SS a few summers ago. Very first experience of any such event. Loved it.

Isolated but situated in the most beautiful landscape. West of Glasgow. Nearly accessible by train then the school did offer a pickup service from the station if needed. Accommodation and meals onsite. First come first served on places.

Hello there !

My annual summer school is August 5th - 10 th inclusive .

We always have a mix of vocational and non - vocational students .

Many off this lovely forum - who I hope would write a testimony !

We do a full performance in the theatre on the Saturday .

The course covers all genres , but this year the students may specialise in either classical or commercial .

Its in Keighley , West Yorkshire .

We offer daily places , or residential .

Classes taught by ex- professional or current professional dancers .

I can give you a link to a clip from last year , when we performed ‘Swan Lake ‘

One of my former students danced Odette / Odile.

She is a ballet finalist in BBC young dancer this year .

Please pm me for further details .

I think York Dance Scholars would be perfect. It was my daughter’s first summer school, and 4 years later it was my son’s first (aged 11 and only been dancing for about a year). When my daughter went for a second time she took a friend who loved to dance but had no wish to be a dancer, and she loved it too. It’s very friendly and inclusive, and they are grouped by ability so the ‘top group’ can stretch the more aspirational dancers, whilst other groups are very suitable for newer or recreational dancers. My son is going again this year.

Also heard great things about Tutugirl’s summer school, which unfortunately we have never been able to make.

Thoroughly recommend Tutugirls summer school. My DS attended 3 years running and had a lovely time.  Very friendly.  Lovely classes.  Great after summer school show. Is suitable for both recreational and serious dancers alike.

My daughter is a York Dance Scholar and she attended the summer school last year for the first time, she absolutely loved it and the showcase at the end of the week was fabulous . Hopefully she can attend this year, we are just waiting to see if we can jiggle hubbys   work commitments . Couldn’t speak highly enough of it though x

Check out tutu girl on this forum.  She has a fabulous summer school and has guest teachers including professional ballerinas and teachers from vocational schools.  They take residential pupils too.  No audition .  Based in Yorkshire . If you pm me I can give you contact details
