Recommended Posts

Celine Gittens from Birmingham Royal Ballet on BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour this week, talking about the role of Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker (and other things).

Haven't seen this noted on the forum so thought I would post it, apologies if it is a duplicate of information already posted somewhere else.

Thanks Northstar!  I'd seen Celine's post on twitter but hadn't looked the feature up.

It's well worth a listen from 26 minutes in.

An excellent interview from Celine

.Pity there was not time to point out that during the run,she like the others will be dancing several other roles, making it even more hard work that the the interviewer thought.

This was a point which that BBC documentary two years ago about the Royal Ballet Nutcracker also missed.  It made it look as though preparing for her first Sugar Plum Fairy was the only thing Francesca Hayward had going on - whereas in fact she was first-cast Clara as well!
