Lala Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 My DD has been home a week now from her vocational school due to sickness bug etc... Is anybody else out there had the same problems with their children at vocational schools during the past week?
KathyG Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Not this week but several times during our time away. It is quite common and they don't like to keep them at school as these things can spread quickly. It is frustrating though. Especailly when they get well by the next day.
Justamum Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Hi Sorry to hear your DD is sick, but don't fret as she is not on her own. My DD has also been off school also and I know that quite a few of the children have come down in the past week with tummy bugs, sore throats and viruses, and they too have been sent home to get better. Fustrating, but parents should not send them to school if they are clearly not well - coughs and sneezes - etc !! J x
balletla Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 What a shame Lala; she's only just started this September hasn't she? Must be very frustrating for you both. Wishing you a speedy recovery. 1
Fiz Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Something similar is going round at the senior school here. I spent the weekend feeling off colour and sore everywhere. Of course it does help not to fall over while carrying an ironing board as I did earlier in the week! 2
KathyG Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Mine's just rung, he's got an infection in his finger which meant a visit to the doctor followed by a trip to A & E! After a week not at school he was looking forward to doing classes again and all he got to do today was ballet and even then he couldn't use his arm. Luckily as he's now 18 the school aren't on the phone to send him home.
Fiz Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 How frustrating for you all. A and E is a massive PITA and not being able to dance nearly as big, if not bigger!
2dancersmum Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Hope your children are better and back at school soon. All my children have always been ill within the first few weeks at a new school and then healthy with rarely a day off between them until they next change schools. I have always felt that it is sudden exposure to new people and a new place assaulting their immune systems. My DD cheerfully told me at the weekend that she will probably be ill soon as she knows quite a few people from ner new school that have been ill last week. so fingers crossed that this time she'll be ok!!!!
Jan McNulty Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Oh Fiz - you should have included that one in "Oh Heck" moments! Don't laugh - I've only just realised what PITA is an acronym of!! Both my god-daughter and niece picked up really nasty viri within days of starting at new educational establishments a couple of years ago. 2D above echoes my thoughts on this. Hope everyone recovers soon.
Pas de Quatre Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I don't think you even need to go to a new establishment - viruses are doing the rounds of all the schools here. Every day at the moment I have mums ringing to say dk not coming to class as ill.
wildflowers Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I'm still trying to work out what PITA stands for.....is it catching? Hope everyone's poorly DK's better soon 2
primrose Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 They are all dropping like flies at the Bolshoi Academy as well. Its the dreaded virus season again I think.
Moneypenny Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I keep nagging my dd to keep taking her Berroca Boost! Hope your dc's are all better soon. Frustrating so early into the term for bugs and viruses to be doing the rounds.
drdance Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 It's not just the kids - I've been forced to take the day off today due to having the start-of-term virus attack! I felt awful last week and kept going through it but eventually succumbed!
hfbrew Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Even my little dwarf bunny has a cold, vets put him on oral antibiotics! - thats going to be fun....
Anjuli_Bai Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Maybe this virus is spread by keyboard......(pun intended). I just got over a bad head cold. 2
BBA Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hi Wildflowers - i think it stands for 'pain in the a***' ! I could be wrong but I generally find A & E a bit of a PITA !! 3
Fiz Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Oh, hfbrew, your poor little bunny! Good luck with giving him his medicine! 3
hfbrew Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Thankyou,! He knew something was up as this morning he ran away rather than jumping into my arms as normal... Finally did the deed though and must have got some down as he ran straight to his water!!
BankruptMum Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hiope he is on the mend soon hfbrew xx
All4dancers Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Thankyou,! He knew something was up as this morning he ran away rather than jumping into my arms as normal... having not read your previous post at first I thought you were talking about your DS!!!!! 6
hfbrew Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 having not read your previous post at first I thought you were talking about your DS!!!!! Thats made me chuckle, especially as my ds might as well be in Timbuctoo the amount of contact I've had from him lately! And if he jumped into my arms I'd be flattened... Anyway managed to get antibiotics into db first go tonight before he sulked under a table all evening! Definately sneezing less though! (db is dancing bunny btw!) 5
Fiz Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I think I am getting Anjuli or your bunny's cold since I have a sore throat! Can you get one over the internet? 1
TippyTippy Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Oh yes, these days you can get anything over the internet I think I am getting Anjuli or your bunny's cold since I have a sore throat! Can you get one over the internet? 5
swanprincess Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 ahh, thanks a lot, folks, i blamed this irritating cough and sore throat on my sister hope everyones feeling better soon tho!! and aww, poor little bunny! 1
Fiz Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 What a poorly lot we are! Ethel LeNeve, Dr Crippen's secretary always used to say, "Poorly, thank you!" when anyone ever asked how she was at work and it became her nickname around the snake oil dispensary where they both worked.
taxi4ballet Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 You walk into the doctor's surgery, and they say "How are you?" .... Doh! 3
Sheila Beelam Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Sore throat this evening and I NEVER get ill I think the ballet co forum should be quarenteened... 3
taxi4ballet Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 DD's friend found a wild wood pigeon with a mystery illness the other day, she very kindly brought it round to my house. Muggins here had to take it to the vet. Didn't turn out well for the pigeon... I hope it wasn't Bird Flu 2
Tulip Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 It seems a lot of the first year girls have got really bad sore throats at Central, but they are braving on. My daughter sounded like a man tonight all gruff when she phoned. Good job she doesn't read this forum or she would kill me for calling her that. 8
Anna C Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 There must be a way of spreading viruses via this forum; dd's got a streaming cold and I now have a sore throat and earache. That's it - from now on I'm holding my breath while typing here! ;-)
taxi4ballet Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Computer viruses have a lot to answer for! 1
