Berlin based company Sasha Waltz & Guests, known for its innovative choreographic musical theatre performances, present the UK premiere of a Sadler’s Wells Co-production, Sasha Waltz’s Continu. This full length dance performance which has been a decade in the making, takes particular inspiration from two major museum-based projects she created in 2009: the artistic inaugurations for David Chipperfield’s Neues Museum in Berlin, and Zaha Hadid’s MAXXI in Rome.

Created for 24 dancers and premiered in 2010, Continu is set to a contemporary symphonic score, featuring Arcana, written in 1927 by visionary French avant-garde composer Edgar Varèse. Featuring costume design by Bernd Skodzig, scenography by regular collaborators Thomas Schenk and Pia Maier Schriever and lighting by Martin Hauk, Continu is also set to music by Iannis Xenakis and Claude Vivier, composers who, like Varèse, were inspired by scientific and mathematical philosophies. The performance also features the percussion solo Rebonds A by Iannis Xenakis, which will be performed live by the percussionist Robyn Schulkowsky.

Sasha Waltz was born in Karlsruhe, Germany. Since founding the company with Jochen Sandig in 1993, Sasha Waltz and Guests has collaborated with more than 250 artists and ensembles, from 25 countries on nearly 20 productions that have included sight specific works, operas and full length dance theatre works..

Continu is a production of Sasha Waltz & Guests in collaboration with Schauspielhaus Zürich/Zürcher Festspiele, spielzeit’europa|Berliner Festspiele and Sadler’s Wells.
