Jan McNulty
Northern Ballet announces World Première of new children’s ballet for 2018 Puss in Boots announced as new ballet for children 27 October – 3 November 2018 Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, Leeds northernballet.com/puss-in-boots Northern Ballet has announced that its next World Première will be an adaptation of the classic children’s story, Puss in Boots. The production will be the sixth children’s ballet created by the Company in the last seven years, and will première at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre in Leeds with 17 performances from 27 October – 3 November 2018,before touring nationally in 2019. Puss in Boots follows in the footsteps of the Company’s five previous children’s ballets, which have achieved huge popularity both live on stage and in CBeebies TV adaptations. This new ballet will reimagine the much-loved fairytale to tell the story of a remarkable cat who, despite being both clever and charming, always seems to bring his master bad luck. Lasting approximately 40 minutes, the ballet has been created especially for children and young families to experience live dance, music and theatre for the first time. Choreographed by Jenna Lee, founder and Creative Director of JLeeProductions and former English National Ballet Soloist, Puss in Boots will feature set designs by Ali Allen, lighting by Alastair West, costume designs by Jenna Lee in collaboration with Kim Brassley and Carley Marsh, and music composed by Richard Norriss, played live by members of Northern Ballet Sinfonia. Daniel de Andrade, Artistic Director of Northern Ballet’s Children’s Ballets, said: ‘We are delighted to announce Puss in Boots as our newest ballet for children. Our short ballets have been enchanting children across the UK for several years, and for many have offered them the first opportunity to attend the theatre and experience live ballet and music. We are now looking forward to working with Jenna Lee to present Puss in Boots and continue bringing the magic of ballet to families.’ Tickets for Puss in Boots at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre are on sale now with tickets priced at £6.50 for adults and £5.00 for children. Tickets can be booked online at theatreleeds.com or by calling the Box Office on 0113 220 8008. Nicola H
good to see, interesting to see they've gone for an external choreographer as previous 'small ballets for small people' have been choreographed in house , but that may represent the situation at the particular time for the various people involved
ArucariaBallerina
I love the little Northern Ballet productions 😊 I've only seen one, but the audience just adored it! I really need to go and see the 'mature' Northern Ballet!
