Badballetmum
Hi Im looking for a summer school for my daughter, who will be 12. She would definitely like it to include ballet but probably, ideally, other styles of dance. As she's never done a summer school before, I don't want it to be too serious, but would like it to be somewhere with a good reputation. Any recommendations? Also, do you have to audition for summer schools, or just apply? Sorry for all the questions .. a bit new to the serious side of dancing! thank you
Picturesinthefirelight
Are you looking for residential? If so taking into account she'd like ballet plus other dance forms I'd look at one of the summer schools run by one of vocational schools such as Hammond, Tring, Arts Ed etc. If she wanted mostly ballet I'd say OPES or Moorland perhaps. Worktolive
I suggest ‘York Assembly’ which is run by York Dance Scholars.( Yorkshire Ballet Scholarship Centre). This is a residential course over 5 days in the beautiful venue of Queen Margaret’s School in Escrick York in early August. It offers classes in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and musical theatre as well as evening activities including swimming in the schools own indoor swimming pool. Look on the website and the schools website for more information.

2dancersmum
Ballet Cymru summer schools are worth a mention. Although not residential , we got a family room at the Travelodge and had a week away with DD- she danced while we had explored and cheaper than when she did residential on her own. The summer schools run by Ballet Cymru are high standard and my DDs both went for several years. Can recommend.
sarahw
Badballetmum there are many great choices mentioned above. If it works for you a residential one is great fun and builds independense skills.
Guest
Elmhurst junior summer school (10-13 yrs) is residential but 3 days long, which might be long enough for a first time. Application involves submitting a few photographs, but these can be ones that you take yourself -nothing elaborate! They also have activities in the evening, including a visit from BRB dancers. Pixiewoo
DD has done York Assembly (summer 16) and OPES (summer 17) and thoroughly enjoyed them both. She was 12 this summer and enjoyed the boarding part as much as the dancing. You don't audition for these summer schools, just sign up and pay! Although a friends daughter also attended OPES and didn't enjoy it at all, saying it was too far away from home. We're looking at OPES again for next summer, or maybe one later in the holidays (tutugirl ?) Edited October 26, 2017 by Pixiewoo
