Jan McNulty
ZooNation Dance Company Some Like It Hip Hop World Premiere Peacock Theatre WC2 Thursday 20 September - Saturday 13 October 2012 Performances: evenings at 7.30pm, matinees 2.30pm & 4pm Tickets: £12 - £38 Ticket Office: 0844 412 4322 www.sadlerswells.com ZooNation’s Some Like It Hip Hop garnered widespread critical praise and standing ovations at its world premiere last year. Following in the footsteps of the company’s 2006 smash hit Into the Hoods, Some Like It Hip Hop returns to the West End’s Peacock Theatre from 20 September - 13 October 2012 ahead of a UK tour. The Olivier award-nominated ZooNation and Sadler’s Wells production unites sensational dancing with a clever and engrossing storyline. With a nod to Billy Wilder’s film and Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, it tells a comical tale of love, mistaken identity, cross-dressing and revolution; all played out in ZooNation’s trademark style of hip hop, comedy and physical theatre. Directed by Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist and ZooNation founder Kate Prince and featuring music by DJ Walde and Josh Cohen, the show’s acclaimed original cast returns for a second London run, led by Tommy Franzen (So You Think You Can Dance, Blaze), Lizzie Gough (So You Think You Can Dance, The X Factor) and Teneisha Bonner (StreetDance 3D, Shoes, Into the Hoods). Kate Prince founded ZooNation in 2002, providing a permanent base for street dancers working in the commercial music industry. ZooNation performs at venues, festivals and events around the world, including Breakin’ Convention, Sadler’s Wells’ annual international festival of hip hop dance theatre. In 2010 ZooNation became a Resident Company at Sadler’s Wells, and Kate Prince became an Associate Artist. Kate Prince directed and co-choreographed Into the Hoods, which first premiered at the Peacock Theatre in 2006, later opening at the Novello Theatre in 2008. It became both the first ever hip hop dance show to open in the West End and the longest running dance show in the West End’s history. The show won the Theatregoers’ Choice Award for Best Ensemble Performance, and Kate Prince was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreographer. She also choreographed So You Think You Can Dance for the BBC and the movie Streetdance3D. Some Like It Hip Hop is a ZooNation and Sadler’s Wells production, supported by Arts Council England, Curve Leicester and Wales Millennium Centre. Following its run at London’s Peacock Theatre, Some Like It Hip Hop will tour to Salford, Truro, Canterbury, Guildford, Edinburgh, Bradford, Leicester, Nottingham and Wolverhampton. alison
I'm a bit bemused as to how it can be a world premiere when I saw it last year
