Apparently Polunin pulled out of Midnight Express back in April because of "health issues": http://www.standard.co.uk/news/celebritynews/ballets-vanishing-star-sergei-polunin-says-i-wont-let-fans-down-this-time-8634366.html?origin=internalSearch

Good to see that he's now a "celebrity" - which seems to be what he wanted.

From the plethora of articles about Polunin in yesterday's links:

"Polunin said he was in a better place at the moment, although there were "good days and bad days", which would show in his performances. "For an artist it is important to show what your mood is at that particular moment," he said."

So I guess we have been warned.  His portrayal of Franz could be rather unconventional, depending on his mood.

An interesting point from The Guardian:

“Ironically, a key player in bringing Coppélia to London is the Danish choreographer Schaufuss and on Tuesday they were side by side with no obvious hard feelings.

Schaufuss said: "Once in a while a dancer comes along who has special technique, special powers, special talent…”

I've found some of Polunin's recent comments about only dancing for the money and ballet being absurd pretty disrespectful to both the audience and his colleagues. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he's not doing himself any favours with these comments.

Yes I was also saddened and indeed puzzled  by the comments. On one side of the stage you have his “comments” and on the other, a young artist whose performances (for me) are deeply sincere and show a deep respect for his craft. A schism perhaps

In “2013 - the year in review" Zoe Anderson wrote:

"Turkey of the Year - "Midnight Express",  Peter Schaufuss Ballet,  London Coliseum

Sergei Polunin pulled out of this horror at the last minute – and though he’s getting a reputation for vanishing acts, it was hard to blame him in this case. Schaufuss’ prison ballet was embarrassingly bad, with disco brutality and aerobics-class angst."

Personally I am glad that Zoe Anderson, unlike Jefferey Taylor, showed her appreciation and even found a sort of excuse for the dancer’s conduct.

Film “Narcissus and I” will be released in 2014:

http://issuu.com/rm_people/docs/web-new--russianmind_special_issue_/50

Paul Surety, the Director:

………………………………………..

“Narcissus and I” celebrates some of the best of Russian culture - classical ballet, and Pushkin poetry, but the plot is set in contemporary London. It is a modern day Cinderella tale. The narrative revolves around the action of a young woman and a striking male ballet dancer (performed by renowned Russian ballet dancer Sergei Polunin). The film is narrated to translations of the love letters from Pushkin’s “Eugene Onegin” (read by great British actor Simon Callow)”.

It looks that reports of Polunin’s break with Ballet have been greatly exaggerated. The existing topic “Sergei Polunin quits ballet for acting” lost its topical nature, therefore, I started a new topic.

After his successful debut in “Spartacus” Sergei will dance in “Mayerling” at Stanislavsky; in “Le Corsaire”, “Giselle” and “Nutcracker” in Novosibirsk; then will tour with the theatre to Seoul and later, in January, will go to USA.

Producer Gabrielle Tana told the TV viewers in Moscow about her new film:

Currently in production is “Tiger Son”, a feature-length documentary about the young dancer Sergei Polunin:

The 'Tiger Son' link produced a piece all about the film 'Philomena' that I had rather enjoyed.  I doubt that I'll be in any rush to see a documentary about someone whose story is still emerging.

The link is correct, Ian. If you roll down the website pages to Page 12, you will find the paragraph starting with the words: "GABRIELLE TANA (PRODUCER). Gabrielle Tana is a film and television producer based in New York and London..." - and in this paragraph you well see the information about "Tiger Son".
I personally will be looking forward to seeing this film because Polunin's story has emerged for me when he was still in the Upper School and I enjoyed watching his development later into an outstanding dancer. It is good to film dancers when they are still young and strong, before the “story” is complete.

An initiative of the Hear the World Foundation, a Switzerland-based organization that advocates for the hearing impaired, will include Sergei Polunin's dance workshop for children from the  Angels of Hope:

There are many photos of Sergei Polunin on these websites during and after the master-class that he gave for children. He did it on request of the Bryan Adams Foundation to help children with hearing loss:

Beautiful photographs of Sergei Polunun and Natalia (not Alina) Somova in "La Bayadere" on 19.12.14:  http://www.jackdevant.com/natalia-somova-and-sergei-polunin-in-la-bayadere/

Now he will dance it with the Novosibirsk Theatre in New Delhi:

It would be interesting to know how the Indian audience will appreciate this ballet.

There were rumours about Nehru’s impression after he saw “La Bayadere” in Leningrad in the 1950s. He praised the dancers and asked: “In which country is this story taking place?"

On Monday 13 January (Russian Old New Year), Natalia Osipova  and Sergei Polunin participated in the annual Gift of Life charity Gala that took place at the Savoy Hotel in London. Apparently, Natalia didn’t perform there but Sergei did as well as Xenia Ryzhkova and Dmitry Sobolevsky of the Stanislavsky Ballet. In excess of £500,000 was raised for children fighting cancer in Russia.
