Jan McNulty
SCOTTISH BALLET PERFORM WORKS BY CRYSTAL PITE AND ANGELIN PRELJOCAJ AT SADLER’S WELLS IN JUNE Scottish Ballet returns to Sadler’s Wells in June 2017 with a double bill of two radically different, but equally powerful major contemporary dance works. Following rave reviews at Edinburgh International Festival 2016, Scotland’s national dance company will perform Crystal Pite’s Emergence and Angelin Preljocaj’s MC 14/22 (Ceci est mon corps) in London for the first time in June. Crystal Pite, one of the world’s most sought after choreographers, transforms the 38-strong corps de ballet into a swarming horde of insects for Emergence – a journey into a subterranean hive where classical ballet transforms into breath-taking wiry formations. Angelin Preljocaj’s MC 14/22 (Ceci est mon corps) draws on St Mark’s version of The Last Supper in the Bible. Preljocaj evokes biblical imagery through the 12 male dancers who surrender to both tender care and wretched cruelty in this glorification of masculinity. This marks Scottish Ballet’s first performances at Sadler’s Wells since 2015, as the Company takes to the stage for a spellbinding spectacle featuring these two stand-out contemporary dance works. Christopher Hampson, Scottish Ballet CEO / Artistic Director: “We are delighted to return to Sadler’s Wells next month with works from two of the world’s most exciting choreographers. Both MC14/22 (Ceci est mon corps) and Emergence enthralled audiences when we first performed them at the Edinburgh International Festival, 2016. We are thrilled to sharing this daring double bill of dance with the Sadler’s Wells audiences.” Scottish Ballet will perform Emergence by Crystal Pite and MC14/22 (Ceci est mon corps) by Angelin Preljocaj at Sadler’s Wells in London from 7-10 June 2017.
