Adam Linder, originally from Australia, is a choreographer and dancer based in Los Angeles and Berlin. He has worked with Michael Clark, Meg Stuart and The Royal Ballet and makes work for the stage and for visual art spaces. He was the winner of the inaugural Place Prize and has performed his work in London at ICA and Frieze. His practice is enmeshed in a choreographic approach to conceptual ideas. Of particular interest to Linder is the meeting of the critical, supposedly objective or rational, with the expressive – the over-linguistic meeting the pre-linguistic. He mines the lively incompatibilities in this encounter, successful failures in translation and productive mis-translations.Linder was awarded the Mohn Prize for artistic excellence in the Made in LA Biennial at The Hammer Museum Los Angeles in 2016. He participated in the 20th Biennale of Sydney and the Liverpool Biennial, and has recently performed solo and two person shows at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2015) and The Schinkel Pavillon, Berlin (2016).Additionally, his works have been commissioned and presented in major international institutions including HAU Hebbel-am-Ufer Theatre Berlin, Serralves Museum Porto, Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, The Wattis Institute San Francisco, Museum of Modern Art Warsaw, American Realness NYC, Kampnagel Theatre Hamburg, and 356 Mission Rd Los Angeles.AUTO FICTO REFLEXO was created by Linder in 2015, and is a playful piece regarding the use of language to cultural production. Interviews with artists, cultural policy rhetoric or critique become rhythmic-conceptual generators of movement in this duet that is staged through levels like a game. Together with his co-choreographer and performer Justin Kennedy and the music producer Adam Gunther, Linder's choreographic form is located between dance, language and sound effecting. Inspiration is taken from movement that evolves body-to-body such as paddy-cake, gliding or snapshot posing. Forms that are inherently connected to current social and technological conditions – flow, fragmentation and repetition – are all pathways for communication. Linder said: “What I am interested in is how language constrains us; how the body can be defined by language, and how it can push past the boundaries of it.” Justin Kennedy is a Berlin-based dance artist and teacher originally from St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. In 2006, he earned a BA in Dance and Ethnic Studies from Wesleyan University and in 2013, an MA in Choreography from HZT Berlin. His current projects include work with his art boyband BOYZ in the WOODS, as well as ANTI-CAB, a performative taxi service, and his new solo Toon Up the Middleground. Adam Gunther is a producer, composer and musician, originally from LA and currently residing in Berlin. Often working alongside visual artists and making music for the senses, he has created scores for stages, galleries and records.
