New 6th form dance college opening Sept '17

It looks nice, but I don't understand why anyone would pay to complete an Extended diploma in either performing arts or dance when they can get it from their local FE college for free if they are 16-18 or 19-23 and it's their first level 3 qual, plus there is the option of an advanced learning loan for all learners aged 19+  which you don't pay back until you are earning more than £21k.

I wish them good luck, but think that they will struggle to recruit sufficient numbers for a comprehensive course.

Those were my thoughts exactly.

Where I live there are two very highly respected dance schools with an excellent track record of getting students into leading vocational schools and colleges.  Both have linked up with local FE colleges to offer vocational training with the Btec extended diploma - for free.

It may be that they are located in an area where the only other courses on offer are of a lower standard and not designed for aspiring professional performers.  In which case £2,000 per term is incredible cheap for full time education (I would be interested to know what the contact hours are).

We live not too far from there, but would have had reservations about this fees per term. We have topped up gaps in DDS local training through Associate schemes which work out cheaper than this. Seems to have worked for DD who has an offer from one of the colleges she wanted to go to. She joined a county youth dance company to get more contemporary training, and that works out at about £100 per term. May suit some people if sure that's what they want, and parents can afford to help them along the way.

Two thousand pounds for a BTEC [i assume that's what it is] Level 3 Extended Diploma? A TERM?? My son's Level 3 Extended Diploma was £2,500 per year, Increased just as he was about to start, from £1,400 previously and trust me, that was exhorbitant enough.

More information,as I have contacted them as DD is seriously looking at it.

It is a specialised course for those who are serious about Dance and the Performing Arts with a high level of contact time. They do over bursary to students on merit and means as they are unable to offer government funding at this time.

Non of the local 6th form colleges offer an extended diploma in dance or performing arts, we have looked. DD is ready to go away so for us this looks like the best thing. There are a couple of nit so local places but they are more than the £2000 a term this is going to be ( one is £5000 ) They are announcing new staff or visiting staff constantly and the standard of staff looks incredible high. Yes it's a risk because it's new but if it ticks the boxes for DD and is a step towards her goal of studying dance at 18+ it has to be worth a try.

Sorry just re-read what I wrote. That fee was for his HND not the Level 3 Ext.Dip.

If anyone is interested the web site is now live. Just spent the afternoon with DD reading about the staff and visiting faculty. She has decided to audition.

Good luck to your DD,it looks lovely. I'm guessing they don't have boarding facilities?
