Royal Ballet School SS

Recommended Posts

Thanks TooTu - all sorted and confirmation received - I have just been back to check e-mail!

We have been looking at alternatives as the chances of an offer are so slim.  I was surprise to see that many summer schools are so early - before DD has finished.  Are they aimed at those at vocational school who have already broken up for the summer?  I am looking for something to give DD something different but those I have seen that fit our dates only ask for a few years ballet experience and I am worried that they wont "challenge" - I don't like using that word but can't think how else to describe what we are looking for.

That's great you got it sorted out & confirmed. I agree the chances are slim & we too are looking for alternatives for dd. I have read others on the forum recommending Ballet West & Opes before so we are looking at those. Also dd was looking at the masters of ballet summer intensive in London & liked the idea of it but finding affordable accommodation in London for a week might not be easy. I also prefer residential summer schools because you know what you are paying whereas the non residential if you are not local costs like accommodation, travel & eating out quickly add up too

Thanks TooTu.  The last week of Ballet West four weeks of SS is the same as RBS second week and would work as alternative but we couldn't make any of the earlier weeks.  Thanks for suggesting OPES - their middle week might work for us.  I agree that residential is best if you can afford it and for me I would need some type of holiday activity anyway so might as well be dance as DD has outgrown most other holiday clubs she used to attend.  Masters of Ballet looks good - slight clash of dates but worth looking at - just hope the video audition doesn't put us off and also although DD is doing G6 she is not yet on pointe.  Deep breath - it is only January - I don't have time to think summer!  Good luck with whatever your DD does.

Thanks Newdancermum & good luck to your dd too. It does feel very early to be thinking about Summer doesn't it. The first week of the Masters of Ballet might work for us as an alternative if I can find some reasonable accommodation either nearby or within commuting distance.. now off to look at the requirements for the video audition

I might have miss read but I thought Masters was two weeks without a one week option.

I think there is an option of 1 or 2 weeks. I could be wrong though as I only read quickly through the information

After several years on the wait list, my daughter still wants to apply, so I filled out the application last night. They don't ask for their height and weight anymore, had out the measuring tape and all lol!  I guess they can tell from the photos if the dancer has the proportions they look for and the height doesn't matter? Or did I miss them somehow!?

Anyway, we know it is a long shot and are very lucky she has a full scholarship to a Dublin intensive this summer, good luck to all the girls that are applying!

Advice sought....DD been wait listed for WL SS last 2 years so wanting to apply with the hope of 3rd time lucky! Trouble is, I was ill over Xmas & didn't get round to taking photos....she has now done them on phone with a friend (boarding ) & sent to me but they are not doing her justice at all (or her teachers!) and contradict her distinctions in major exams too. Her physique shows fine but I really do expect that 13/14 year olds need to look spot on technique-wise too to get selected....esp as this year they are encouraging full time White Lodgers to apply!

Deadline 5pm tomorrow so no chance to get photos re-done...really troubled as pretty sure these photos will mean the no pile when actually she shows potential this year more than any before.....I am also having computer nightmare which means not able to upload even if I wanted too - aghhhHH. Maybe fate is saying save £25? & also telling me to get more organized with timings in future :-)

Can her dance teacher help her after school today or tomorrow during the day if dd could take an hour off school for an 'appointment'?

Seems a shame not to apply with the best photos when she has been so close before.

Could she re-take them with an older student helping rather than someone from her year group.

Sure they said march last year but we heard by email on 1st Feb! But seeing as they've announced today that decisions will be out by 1st march and a record number of applicants, i imagine parents and dc will have a longer wait this year!

Wow! That's a huge number of applicants, and each one submitted 5 photographs, that is a lot of pics to look at, think it will take Mr Annear sometime!! Good luck to everyone, any dc that gets a place has done very well indeed!!

2694 applications for 632 spaces.  Offers sent out from 1 March.

Is that 2694 just for summer school, or does that include applications for full-time as well?

According to their Instagram post today, that's all for summer school taxi4ballet!! More applicants but lots more places too tho! Approx a 1 in 4 chance isn't too bad an odds. Not sure what it was last year.

Odds are definitely better then this year! Expecting a longer wait for results though as they have lots more applications to look at.
