toursenlair Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Has anyone had the "pre-theatre supper on the mezzanine level" at Sadlers Wells? any thoughts? I know there is also a Jaimie's Italian very nearby but I like to keep my groups actually in the theatre if I can.
Jan McNulty Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Sorry no Katherine but I have found the food in the Garden Cafe (or whatever it is called) OK if it is the same caterers. Our current favourite is Cafe Pistou in Exmouth Market, about a 10 minute stroll away.
toursenlair Posted November 12, 2016 Author Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) thanks, Janet. I may try Cafe Pistou myself, but I have found it is too easy to lose people on 10 minute strolls! It does look awfully nice, though, and I would never have found it by myself. Do you think it's big enough to handle a group of 25? Edited November 12, 2016 by toursenlair
Jan McNulty Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 It's worth ringing them to see. There's definitely enough room but they may not want to commit to such a big group.
alison Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Thanks, Janet: I'd rather given up on Exmouth Market in recent months and used the café - or Cote up by Islington Green.
aileen Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I like Morito in Exmouth Market but it's small and I don't know whether you can book. Moro is next door and looks bigger. I've never been there but it's very well known. I suspect that it's pretty pricy.
Fonty Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I had an excellent meal in Miz en Bouche in St John St. They do a pre theatre menu, but I can't remember how much it was. Moro is pricy, not the place for a quick meal. It is lovely though (or it was the last time I went, several years ago.)
alison Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I don't know Miz en Bouche - how far down is it? (It's not the one which used to be an Italian restaurant with an open courtyard, I suppose?)
LinMM Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 There's a restaurant called The Banana Tree in St. John's road virtually opposite the theatre which has south Asian cuisine so if people don't mind spicy food this one is fine I've eaten there a couple of times now.
Fonty Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 I don't know Miz en Bouche - how far down is it? (It's not the one which used to be an Italian restaurant with an open courtyard, I suppose?) It is not that far down, Alison. A very short walk. I don't know what it used to be before. It is quite small, and it may have an open courtyard at the back. I went last winter, so I didn't look outside, but I have a vague memory of what might have been french doors at the back.
Blossom Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Not eaten there in quite a while, but I'd recommend The Gate - a vegetarian restaurant but a very innovative menu...About a 2 minute walk from the theatre. 1
toursenlair Posted January 10, 2017 Author Posted January 10, 2017 Cafe Pistou has closed, but apparently something else is moving into the same spot.
Jan McNulty Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 Cafe Pistou has closed, but apparently something else is moving into the same spot. I got the email yesterday. I'm devastated. Apparently the same team is opening a new venture but it doesn't give any details in the email.
alison Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 The trouble with Exmouth Market is that I don't think people generally realise it's there, or what there is there. Over the years, I've seen various branches of chains set up there, and eventually close. I suspect many of them do good enough business on weekdays, but evenings and weekends do appear to be a struggle
