Where can you buy Shellac?

Jet glue and Shellac are very different though. Jet glue hardens the shoes much more and my DD found it isn't flexible like Shellac is. She found Jet glue hardens too much (she used to use it on the wings of her Freeds) and gave permanent painful creases if you get it in the wrong place, whereas Shellac you can manipulate it and soften it it you get in in a crease. Jet glue however is good for strengthening the shank area.

We have bought clear French Polish instead of shellac and found although runnier, it does the same job.

We purchased shellac flakes from our local antique shop, which stocks antique restoration supplies. Easy to dissolve them in methylated spirits to desired consistency and then paint the mixture on the inside of the box. A hardware store probably would also stock shellac.
