Jan McNulty Posted October 19, 2016 Share Posted October 19, 2016 Press Release: Local Recovery community join Fallen Angels at The Lowry: Fallen Angels Dance Theatre who aim to transform the lives of people struggling with addiction, will perform a full length dance theatre production “Upon Awakening” on 16th November at The Lowry Salford Quays. “This is a big achievement for Fallen Angels, we are feeling really blessed and delighted that the artistic quality and vision for our work with people in recovery is being recognised.” explains Claire Morris from Fallen Angels. Artistic Director Paul Bayes Kitcher has been developing the dance theatre production over the last 2 years, and with the support of The Lowry is bringing the production to the prestigious venue’s studio theatre with professional dancers and people in recovery from addiction who have developed their skills and interests in the arts through our programmes. The Company will be joined on stage with a group of local people in recovery from addiction. The group have been meeting weekly at The Orchard recovery hub in Salford with funding from Achieve Salford Recovery Service Community Asset Fund. They have participated in workshops and choreography led by Paul Bayes Kitcher and have created a performance curtain raiser before Upon Awakening. For some it will be there first performance on a stage and it is wonderful to be able to give them this life affirming experience. Fallen Angels productions integrates people in recovery from addiction to create a fully inclusive authentic theatre production. Performer Damian Stewart being a focal point in the production the aim of which sets out to break down the stigma surrounding addiction and recovery.
