This Sadler’s Wells co-production with Keegan-Dolan’s Tech Damsa will receive its UK premiere on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 November 2016, following its world premiere at the Dublin Theatre Festival in October. Swan Lake / Loch na hEala will be the first major production by Tech Damsa.Performed by a cast of eight dancers, two actors and three musicians, this new production is rooted in a place where ancient Irish mythology and the complexity of modern Ireland meet. Keegan-Dolan creates a world of magical realism, with powerful imagery evoking the identity of his homeland. The performance is set to a captivating score of traditional Irish and Nordic Folk music, played live with fiddle, cello, banjo, whistle, voice and percussion. As well as being an Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells, Michael Keegan-Dolan is the Founder and former Artistic Director of Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre and Tech Damsa. Previous collaborations with Sadler’s Wells include The Rite of Spring and Petrushka. He has recently been Guest Artistic Director of the National Youth Dance Company, the country’s flagship organisation for young dancers which is run by Sadler’s Wells. Keegan-Dolan’s previous choreography on Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre productions Giselle, The Rite of Spring and The Bull was all nominated for Olivier Awards – the latter winning the UK Critics’ Circle Award for Best Modern Choreography.
