Dance/Ballet schools in Abingdon

Hi all,

Old forum members might remember that we've been trying a move back to the UK for quite some time now and some lovely forum members have even helped trying to find a good ballet school for DD1 and DD2 wherever we were trying to move at the time...

So I'm now very happy to announce that we have managed a move back! Amazingly all the stars suddenly aligned and DH found a job and DD3 found a school exactly where we wanted to go all that in the course of less than a week! We jumped on it, of course!

Last week this time, we were living in France and since Saturday we are very happy, albeit slightly shell shocked, residents of Abingdon, Oxfordshire! Or we will be as soon as we find a house, a hotel is our home at the moment!!!

And as usual I'm turning to you all with the hope of finding one (or more than one) good ballet/all round dance school(s) for DD3. She's not as big a dancer as her big sisters (who are happily settling in London in their dance degree courses) but still wants a "serious school with a good level" (her words)... She's also very much a theatre girl so if any of you also know of good drama schools around here, feel free to either message me or answer me in here... We are a few miles away from Oxford but I can travel with her if needs be...

Thanks a lot in advance!

Congratulations afab! Wishing you successful house hunting and a very happy new life back in England!

Friends of ours in Oxford have apparently heard good reports of the Marsh Tompsett school which I think is in Abingdon. They seem to have a new principal whose background is theatre alongside dance so may be suitable? Not sure re standards etc as it is just somewhere that friends of friends have experienced.

Welcome Back! My daughter attends Jill Stew School of Dance in Witney which I would whole heartedly recommend-it's not far from Abingdon and free parking in the whole of Witney. 4 of the dancers are in the EYB forthcoming production in Oxford and many attend Associates. Great atmosphere and wonderful teaching.

Is Tring too far? My dd was a Tring Associate and found it amazing. TPA head Janet Devenish is fantastic. We had a few different classes and would highly recommend them all. It's definitely worth a look especially if you could make a whole day on a Saturday with drama, dance etc so worth the extra miles! Welcome home!

My daughter goes to Download dance. It is a central Abingdon RDA Ballet school. http://downland-dance.co.uk there is also Marsh Tomspset which covers a wider field of dance http://marshtompsettdance.co.uk and also Amanda who also covers other dance forms ://www.aadanceacademy.co.uk. All in Abingdon. Also Abingdon Youth Ballet for monthly classes and holiday courses. Theatre wise there is https://www.creationtheatre.co.uk and http://www.abingdon-drama-club.com/juniors.html in Abingdon. In Oxford lots of different theatre groups but http://pegasustheatre.org.uk has lots of youth classes also look at the https://www.cornerstone-arts.org. Hope this gives you some leads.

Thank you all of you for addresses and good wishes! Back in France this weekend for packing DD2 to go to LSC...

Back in Oxfordshire next Monday, I'll be checking the names you gave me.

Have a good weekend!
