Amelia
ILLLUSTRATED LECTURE: THE NUTCRACKER BALLET STORY (1892). By MARGARET FLEMING-MARKARIAN (in English) This talk on The Nutcracker ballet focuses on an allegory of freedom, using clues mainly from the libretto and the original designs in the St Petersburg Theatre Library. Such freedoms are political, economic, social and spiritual - and all are woven into the guise of a delightful story about a little girl called Clara who receives the gift of a nutcracker as a Christmas present! Friday 16 September 2016 at 7pm http://www.suttonrussiancircle.org.uk Sutton Russian Circle, 10 Cedar Rd, Sutton SM2 5DA (30 min. by train from Victoria Railway Stn.) The talk is preceded by a short film “Saint Petersburg Hermitage’s Treasures 1800 - 2000”. Guests are charged £8, which also include tea, sandwiches, cakes and various Russian goodies served a la fourchette.
