Interested Parent
So my DD has come to the end of her first vocational year (post 16) and her ballet teacher wants her to work on 'flexibility and mobility in her back to improve her extensions and arabesques''. She also needs to fully anchor her shoulder blades. Could anyone give advice on exercises, thoughts/imagery or maybe a Physio is needed to help her improve? Harwel
To me it is a strength issue. She will need to strengthen the posterior line, from strength, mobility will come. Look into Functional Range Conditioning.
drdance
Definitely agree it's a strength issue. See a physio or someone who can recommend some strengthening exercises. Look up Progressing Ballet Technique - there are some really good exercises for arabesque/backs but need to be done with correct technique.
