alymer
It was unveiled this morning as was one to Sir Frederick Ashton on his former house in Marlborough Street, SW3.
Fonty
What's the connection between Fonteyn and 118 Long Acre? I know the road, but can't picture the exact building.
alymer
She had a flat there in the late forties early fifties.
Two Pigeons
Much as I applaud both these plaques I think it is pretty poor that Markova has not been similarly honoured.
alymer
I believe a plaque for Markova is in the system. But it seems to be quite a lengthy process. Funding is one problem - English Heritage lost much of its Government funding for the plaques a few years ago and permission for the installation of a plaque is not always forthcoming from the owners of the building. cavycapers
Is a blue plaque just a really big Balletcoforum badge?!

Thanks for posting this, RobR - I walked down Long Acre after work today and was delighted to see the plaque.
tabitha
Very poignant timing as 118 is where the final year Upper School students have lived for a number of years until they moved them all elsewhere at Easter this year.

Josephine
This blog post about Fonteyn's childhood in China was published yesterday to coincide with the unveiling of her English Heritage blue plaque: http://visualisingchina.net/blog/2016/06/07/margot-fonteyn-in-china/
Fonty
I notice they got Bussell to do the ceremony for Fonteyn. It seems a pity that they couldn't also have had someone who actually knew Fonteyn well.
Two Pigeons
Indeed, especially as there seemed to be at least 1 or 2 in the assembled throng.
elisabeth
Darcey was coached by Fonteyn for Swan Lake at the beginning of her career. Monica Mason unveiled the plaque for Ninette de Valois. Perhaps, as in all things (rightly) at RB these days, they wanted to project a new image. Strange that both ceremonies took place on the same day.
Colman
Bussell holds the RAD presidency that Fonteyn held - and apparently worked diligently on - so there's an institutional logic there. Pictures of Bussell are also more likely to get into papers as well, so there's a PR logic too.
