I don't usually watch this programme but happened to see it at a friend's last night.

There seem to be a lot of different dance groups.

I thought Shannon & Peter did very well to be in the top 3 - but I wish that man with the dangerous act had not been voted through.  Surely anything so dangerous that it had to be filmed earlier (presumably in case of accident) should not be allowed.

Totally agree with you Janet. Entries in a 'live' show ought to be 'live' and if it is too dangerous, then its really not suitable. It goes to show that it is all about upping the viewing figures for the show and not really what would suit the Royal Variety Show.

I always prefer the auditions every year. Just to see some of the awful acts who think they are good. [usually tone deaf singers]. I tend to not watch it once it gets to the serious part of the competition. I made an exception for Susan Boyle though. She was a bit special.

Yes, i do so hope that either young Jack Higgins or Peter amd Shannon get through on the wildcard. If JH doesnt get through, i hope that a major ballet school will take him on, on the strength of seeing his BGT audition, as he has so much young talent that now needs directing to become a professional ballet dancer.

But it would be lovely if Peter and Shannon get through to the final, as it was beautiful, and maybe a last chance.

I haven't been following BGT recently, but I'm surprised that professional ballet dancers would be allowed to take part and present a dance routine even if they're retired. I thought BGT was for amateurs.

Wildcard vote has opened and will close at 11pm tonight. Shannon and Peter would love to perform in the final. Voting is easy you download the free bgt app on your phone/iPad etc and you get 5 free votes

The majority of entrants who do well (adult ones anyway) are professionals.

I seem to remember reading something about the 12-year-old girl who's doing so well this year, because people were saying she shouldn't have been eligible because she's had professional training. Even though having professional training isn't a problem apparently, it does suggest that people think there's a ban on professionals entering.

Did it start off being for amateurs only and then broaden its scope? I mean, I remember some controversy about the Hungarian act that won in 2013 and the French guy with his talking dog last year because they weren't British and wouldn't have been allowed to enter in earlier years, so I assume the conditions change. It just seems weird that a programme advertising itself as a talent-spotting contest would allow established professionals to enter, because they've already been spotted.

I think the talking dog act was controversial because the dog was effectively muzzled underneath a mechanical mask.

To be honest I have stopped watching BGT and X Factor but I saw the clip of Shannon and Peter's audition and thought it was lovely. Much better than the Stormtroopers IMO.

I definitely preferred it back in the beginning when most of the auditionees were amateurs.

The 12 year old girl is in year 7 at dds school.

She has had singing lessons & attended a once a week kids Saturday class before going to the school as a music specialist. If you think how far back the auditions were she'd not been there very long. (All publicly available mainstream press info)

We are rooting for Shannon & Peter who tsught dd atOPES summer school.

I have no problem at all with any of the acts having professional training. The programme is giving a chance to those who are training or trying to make their way in an overcrowded business, and might not otherwise get noticed, or might not know how to get noticed.

The acts are not already established and working in their chosen field. I don't think member of the RB would be allowed to apply!

I don't think that there would be enough extremely talented amateurs, who hadn't been directed by someone into training, to fill the show, or to make it interesting. I also don't think that the viewing public are taken in anyway, I'm sure that the act's level of professional training is taken in to account by most people when voting.

There do seem to be a lot of members of the general public who believe that all these entertainers, choirs, acrobats, musicians, dancers, magicians & co have all managed to get to the standard they've reached by practising at home in their bedrooms, are completely raw talent and have never had a lesson in their lives... and then get a bit indignant when it transpire that many have had professional training.

Strange to be talking about this here in a way, but delighted that Shannon and Peter got through.

I do think it's not right that acts that do all the "<Insert Country>'s Got Talent" competitions are dominating. My personal preference would be to change the name of the show OR only allow people who live here to enter. Or, as a last option, let the voters know about this (the fake ignorance of the judges is another matter!) rather than forcing them to do their own research.
