CHazell2
Hi there. I am not sure if this is the proper place, but I just wanted to introduce myself to everybody on Ballet.co. I have recently joined as a new member but I have been following the forum for a couple of years now. I have always found ballet.co to be a plethora of information and I have enjoyed hearing about the great dancers of the past. I have loved ballet ever since I was a child and I always try to attend as many ballet performances as I can - unfortunately I have been quite busy the last few years but I am hoping to make up for it now. Looking forward to meeting people on here. Chris (CHazell2)

Jan McNulty
Hello CHazell2 and welcome to the Forum! Where do you do most of your ballet watching? Are there any companies you particularly follow. (I myself follow BRB and NB although I also go to ROH and to see ENB and any other companies I can in the North).

I generally watch the Royal Ballet, but I also love BRB. I love ENB's Giselle. What are your favourite ballets?
Jan McNulty
Onegin is my absolute favourite - it was a performance I saw in 1984 (London Festival Ballet now ENB) that got me interested in watching ballet. I also love Peter Wright's productions of Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker and Coppelia for BRB. David Bintley's Hobson's Choice and Far from the Madding Crowd for BRB. And of course, Fille and Two Pigeons. The Dream is very, very special too. David Nixon's Madame Butterfly, Swan Lake, Midsummer Night's Dream, Cinderella and Wuthering Heights for NB. Christopher Gable's Cinderella for NB (so wish we could see that again) and his co-productions of Romeo & Juliet (Massimo Morricone), Dracula (Michael Pink) and Giselle (Michael Pink). Mary Skeaping's Giselle (ENB), La Sylphide etc And they are the full length ones...

That`s where I saw it ,with my French teacher . She didn`t know that the steps of ballet were all in French !
Dance*is*life
I have never forgotten the performance I saw of Onegin with LFB. It was at the London Coliseum in 1989 with Ekaterina Maximova. She was 50 then, but you would never have known it. By the way Janet, I googled Maximova and Onegin LFB and came up with a thread on Onegin from 2012 in which you and I had written long posts about our experiences with Onegin! - it was from Ballet Alert Invisionzone. Was that Ballet.co in a different form? I had a different name and you were JMcN! Isn't that wierd?????
Jan McNulty
No, that is an American forum. Small world! I saw the Maximova performance in London too - I think it was the disastrous season at the Dominion rather than the usual at the Coli. I first saw Onegin at the London Coliseum on 26 May 1984 and saw it performed subsequently many times by LFB/ENB and since then by several companies. Two Pigeons
I saw Maximova in Onegin on the same day as Evdokimova. I could not tell you which year it was but it was definitely at the Coliseum. My favourite memories at the Dominion were of Haydee and Cragun with Schaufuss as Lensky. Like Janet I really love that ballet and regret that there are no permanent recordings of it. Aside from that, it's a welcome from me too Chris.

I would also like to see the Wedding Bouquet.

Perhaps we should organise a group trip to go and see this company which is specialising in the works of Sir Frederick Ashton!

alison
I saw Maximova in Onegin on the same day as Evdokimova. I could not tell you which year it was but it was definitely at the Coliseum. 1990, at a guess. (And no, I don't have an encyclopaedic memory - it's just the year we moved house, and I remember that I had front upper circle seats for the performance with Evdokimova, Sombart, Armand and Sevillano that evening, and flatly refused to miss the performance! I *was* tired by the end of it, though
Two Pigeons
It was worth it though wasn't it Alison. Lovely performance of a lovely ballet. What a tragedy that Eva died so young, she was a dancer like no other.

I adored Gable's Cinderella! I still have the music on CD.
