I'm not quite sure that a guest should take a performance when a company is on tour (as is the case with the RB in Japan, I see).

I thought that Yana Salenko is with the RB in Japan, Capybara, isn't she?

Yes but of course this is controversial. Salenko is a fabulous and lovely ballerina but we would prefer to see RB's own ballerina, who knows MacMillan well.

Thanks, Bluebird.

In the Odette-Odile department these would be some of my favourites. No great surprises, but a chance to see some magnificent performances. Olga Smirnova/Svetlana Zakharova. Olga Smirnova, because she is capable of Wonders and Svetlana Zakharova, because she represents perfection. Anna Nikulina, because she dances like a cloud and Yulia Stepanova, because she’s lovely.

I guess the only one that I missed is Ekaterina Krysanova and she's excellent as well.

Regarding Natalia's withdrawal from the Bolshoi tour, she discusses this in the short interview in today's Sunday Times Culture magazine, amongst other things. Basically, she's acting upon advice from Doctors to be 'clever and selective' to regain her standard, after a year filled with many injuries (apparently the most recent one before Giselle was a hip dislocation).

I am pleased to hear that Osipova is being more selective about her performances. I've thought for a while that rushing all over the place to dance in addition to her commitments with the RB might be contributing to her injury problems as she has little time to rest and recuperate. I have feared that she would develop chronic injuries which would continue to plague her with increasing frequency. I see with dismay that her Sadler's Wells programme is being reprised in September. It's a shame (imo) that she couldn't have used the summer and the time available when she is not rehearsing with the RB in the autumn to rest and treat her injuries.

It is though - she's a Moscow girl who did all her schooling there.

"There" doesn't mean at Bolshoi. She got her schooling at the Moscow State Choreographic Academy. Being a Moscow girl by the way doesn’t make anybody more predestined to belong in Bolshoi than anybody else, born elsewhere in Russia.

I think it's an irrelevant discussion, but in Natalia's own words:

@3:41 "I grew up in Moscow, I studied in Moscow, all my teachers were from Moscow, I dance with Bolshoi, I am absolutely a Moscow ballerina"

Nobody is saying she's predestined to dance with Bolshoi, but to deny her Moscow influences growing up would be difficult.

Hello everyone ! I bought too many tickets for this tour and I would like to return the Swan Lake one and two for The Taming of the Shrew (premieres in both cases). Is it possible to be paid back ? I hope so :)

I am not sure of my ground on this, but I have always understood that since it's the Hochhausers who present these programmes they are in charge of ticket return and they don't give refunds. Perhaps it's worth ringing the box office to check and if this is indeed the case you could try exchanging your unwanted tickets or offer them here.

edited to add:

Aha - I've just seen that you are doing just that!

I unfortunately had to return 2 swan lake tickets back to the box office a few weeks ago. The service is actually very good.

I returned the allocation online to the ROH and they said they would take the returns as per the terms and conditions. Which basically is they offer them for sale once all normal tickets have been sold (which is the case). You can also see online if your tickets are being offered on the website.

2 minor wrinkles...

1) you must call the ROH ticket to confirm that the tickets have been resold, they don't notify you automatically. (only after the performance)

2) The payment is returned to the card within 28 days after the performance.

I am not sure about the reasons for the payment being delayed as it seems someone has bought the tickets and so the Ticket Office will have the pleasure of holding 2 payments against one order, but, its a polite and well run service.

This is a bit cheeky, but does anyone know if you've asked the ROH to resell a ticket and it hasn't been successfully resold whether you can have it back before the performance so it doesn't go to waste?  I panic bought for 2 different casts before casting was announced, but if I knew my ticket wasn't sold I'd like to go rather than lose out on both the money and performance.

It isn't the ROH who decides when the refund is credited but the credit card provider.  In my experience refunds appear two or three days after the performance.

Casting changes:

Hello everyone.  I've just gone through and changed the font colour of all the posts announcing cast changes to "dark orange" (doesn't unfortunately come out as very dark, but I wanted something that would stand out as significantly different from the black to be spotted easily on scrolling.  I would have used red except that I suspect that red-green colourblindness still applies to onscreen colours.  If anyone has a better suggestion, please let me know).  Do note, though, that the fact that they're orange doesn't necessarily mean they are still current!  As far as I can see, the most up-to-date casting is what's posted in Bluebird's thread No. 77 on page 3.

Thanks to everyone who's taken the trouble to post updates.

Edit: I've given up and have decided to try something artistic instead.

ROH decides however, that we must wait until after the performance. So they do hold two lots of prices up until the performance. It was this part that I felt was particularly 'wrinkly', as I would imagine the person who has bought the tickets has taken over all rights, and I should be out of the process.

As I say, no drama, and a good service.

Bruce you are not alone in finding the text difficult to read when it is coloured dark orange. It is almost as difficult as some programme notes printed in black on a dark buff page which I came across years ago . It was all but impossible to read in the theatre and not much easier on the tube.
