alison Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I saw an advert on TV today announcing the return of Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, LaLa and Po in a new series. The Teletubbies used to be a popular topic of conversation on the "old" board, although it may have been on the much-missed Chat Page rather than the main site. I can't believe how long it is that they've been gone ... 2
Lisa O`Brien Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 My son was 2 years old, roughly when they appeared on the BBC first time. I always thought Po was the cutest. Remember word getting round that a store in the Manchester Arndale Centre had a new shipment of the much coveted Teletubbies cuddly toy that was THE must have toy for Christmas. Was delighted and relieved when I was able to buy my son`s Po for him. He still has it,along with all his Thomas The Tank Engine things. I`ll never throw any of his childhood toys or books away. Mainly I think ,because when I was 18 my mum threw out every childhood book and toy I had ever owned without asking me. I was devastated when I found out. I`ve spent the last few years re-acquiring copies of all my old books and toys, including my Sindy Ballerina, complete with purple tutu and white leotard and tights, and my Bizzie Lizzie doll. Still look out for my lovely Topsy Turvy Cinderella doll, but i`ve never come across one as remotely lovely since. I think i`ll have to go to a professional dressmaker and have it made for me from scratch from my memory of it. 1
taxi4ballet Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I wonder when they are planning to air the first episodes? If it's before Christmas there will be rather a lot of frantic shopping going on! A colleague of mine once told me he was questioned rather aggressively by the police. He was sitting in a darkened car park in mid-December at about 5am (young bloke, baseball cap, red BMW) and the cops surrounded him and demanded to know what he was doing. They let him go when he explained that he was in ToysRUs car park because he was waiting for the shop to open at 6 o'clock so he could be in the front of the queue to buy a Laa-Laa. His little boy was desperate for one for Christmas and his wife would be livid if he didn't get one! 2
sarahw Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I'm afraid I would put them in room 101!! Daughter wasn't allowed to watch them - one of my pet hates is 'baby talk' or even worse in this case..... 1
hfbrew Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I'm afraid I would put them in room 101!! Daughter wasn't allowed to watch them - one of my pet hates is 'baby talk' or even worse in this case.....My ds would agree. When Teletubbies first aired he was so disgusted ( having been an avid Playdays) fan he disappeared off to his room and returned clutching a piece of paper with random letters and drawings on it. He told me to post it to the BBC as it was his letter of complaint! He was only 4! 6
Huddsballetmum Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Sarahw I am totally with you. I hated the Teletubbies the first time round and would not like to see them make a reappearance. Children's tv seems to have gotten incredibly poor since my childhood and shame on the BBC for creating such rubbish! Rant over!!
