JupiterSmith Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Went to book tickets today for the First Steps performance for 3-7yr olds (Swan Lake).. and its 1pm on a school day! I have 2 girls (3&7) who I'd love to take, but can't justify taking them out of school for it Really disappointed.
Jan McNulty Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Hello Jess and welcome to the Forum. BRB, Northern Ballet and ENB all have children's performances these days. As far as I am aware, most of the performances are on weekdays as Saturdays will be a double main performance day. I may be wrong but I think schools would regard these performances as an educational experience. It is probably worth checking with your children's schools. I have not been able to attend a BRB or ENB performance but I have been to NB performances on weekdays and these have usually been sold out.
JupiterSmith Posted November 2, 2015 Author Posted November 2, 2015 It would be nice if they did! I will ask tomorrow. I took my eldest to see BRB's Coppélia last year and she was mesmerised, but my 3 year old is too young for a full performance, the First Steps session would be perfect for her though.
FLOSS Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) May I ask a question. What does BRB serve up for its First Steps programme? I ask as while I can see the need for ENB to give potted versions of Swan Lake and other nineteenth century classics as an introduction to ballet because it doesn't have that many child friendly one act ballets in its active repertory BRB has plenty of such works.Does BRB also do potted versions of the classics or does it serve up some of the older child friendly ballets such as Pineapple Poll which have plenty of dance, action and colour? In the dim and distant past before the Nutcracker became the default Christmas ballet a much wider range of repertory was performed round about Christmas. I seem to recall years when at Covent Garden Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella were performed in the lead up to Christmas and in the New Year just when everyone needs a burst of sunshine and fun Fille was. programmed.Do you think that anyone would object if Fille, a ballet suitable for audiences from three to ninety three, became a regular feature of the Christmas holidays or Les Patineurs and Pineapple Poll were scheduled say with Ashton's Awakening Pas de Deux? Two Pigeons Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I really wish BRB would perform Les Patineurs as they really have the dancers to do it now. I have been racking my brains and I cannot remember them doing it. SWRB used to do it fairly frequently, including in some of the Big Top seasons. No doubt Janet will know.

According to the book issued for the BRB 20th Anniversary Les Patineurs was first & last performed by BRB in 1996. 2
Two Pigeons Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Many thanks for that information. Either way it's high time they brought it back.

Is it really so long ago??? I would love to see Patineurs again. As the skating scene in NB's latest Cinderella was so effectI've, perhaps someone could persuade them to take it on. I can think of at least 2 dancers I would love to see as the Blue Boy!
Picturesinthefirelight Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 If it's a school day matinee its probsbly aiming for school trips.
