Lilac Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 My DD needs to choreograph a dance of just 2 - 3 mins involving some strong contrast. We have little idea where to start, and anything we find is too well known, too associated with a ballet.. Any suggestions where to start? Thanks
Dance*is*life Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Is she supposed to choreograph a contemporary piece or classical? That makes a big difference musically, of course. Baroque music can be interesting and a bit different. Piano pieces often have contrasting themes if you can find something short enough. Does she have an idea of what she wants to do?
Lilac Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 Type of music doesn't matter, the main things are to find some strong contrast and not to be well known! DD doesn't have much idea!
Pups_mum Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Music from film scores often has quite a bit of contrast within one piece so that might be an avenue worth exploring.
SBallerina Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 (edited) I immediately started to think of Kung Fu Piano: Cello Ascends by The Piano Guys. It is 3,5min and might be too well known though .. You can find it on Spotify Edited November 1, 2015 by SBallerina 2
drdance Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 I would recommend film scores or overtures to operas.... no singing but lots of different styles all in one piece.
Lilac Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 Hi listened to this and we all loved it! All suggestions appreciated - this is top of the list I think. DD also plays the cello which also seemed to make her love it, and a piece we've not heard of so hopefully sufficiently obscure!
Picturesinthefirelight Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Dd loves The Piano Guys but they are becoming very popular (overdone?)
SBallerina Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Picturesinthefirelight: Yea The Piano Guys are becoming more popular now. I love their music as well. I think the Cello one would be fine though. It is quite different from the other versions I've heard.
