dancing10 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 It's quite hard because if you are an associate at LSC you don't have to attend a recall you just get a straight forward yes or no 1
afab Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Do you know if it's the same for the Foundation students, dancing 10?
dancing10 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I just have experience of this being the case for the degree courses but I presume it's the same across the board. I suppose the faculty feel they see enough of each student to judge without a recall
Lilac Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Interested to hear that, DD will be applying in that context next year. Wonder what the success rate is for their associates? 1
SBallerina Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I know two girls who got a place straight after the first audition. They are not in the associate or foundation program.
dancing10 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Was that for the classical ballet degree course sballerina x
afab Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I feel the need to repeat that there is no classical ballet degree course as it's the same course for everybody in the first 2 years... I just don't want people to misunderstand and be disappointed.
dancing10 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I rang through to LSC and was told that there is a classical ballet degree course. The call back for which is only ballet whereas the contemporary call back is only contemporary, same for jazz and musical theatre. I don't want you to think I didn't trust you afab but desperately needed to get a firm answer from LSC themselves before we continued down this route x
afab Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 (edited) I understand Dancing10 but unless things have changed for next year, what they call a ballet degree course is only for the 3rd year specialisation. The recall are always in either ballet, contemporary, jazz or MT. I don't want to be right at all cost, it's just that I don't want people to be disappointed and it took me a while to understand their system before DD joined them and even after she did, I discovered new things... My DD was given the choice to recall in either jazz or MT, she chose MT and is doing exactly the same course as her friends who did the contemporary or ballet recall auditions except for the options that they all chose separately. That's when her friends who do more ballet get pointe work for example... x  PS I actually hope that they have changed things and that you're right because it would be good for DD2 who's a ballet dancer... dancing10 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Thanks for helping us afab, heaven knows we need it lol. I was asked by the lady at LSC why I thought they had given my daughter a recall in ballet rather than contemporary if there wasn't a course available :/ Very confused now
Lilac Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 How many to LSC admit into the first year for the dance degree?
SBallerina Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Dancing10; Yes it was for the ballet focus. I'm not sure whether they will accept the place though. I know they do the same classes in 1st and 2nd year, and it gets more divided in 3rd year.
Chassé Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 My understanding of the course at LSC (based on friends who go there and teachers I know who teach there):Everyone receives the same degree on paper (called BA (Hons) in Theatre Dance). In the first two years everyone on the course does ballet (first class, every day unless it has changed since I was given that info), jazz (not sure how many times per week) and contemporary (usually graham based I think, also not sure how many times per week). I believe everyone also takes choreography and the same theory classes. The rest of the timetable is where it differs depending on what you want your focus to be - everyone has either individual singing lessons or individual pilates coaching, and then can choose from a range of options including pointe work, tap, cunningham, musical theatre dance, acting etc. The idea is that you choose to "specialise" in the options relevant to the course focus you were offered the place for (ie ballet, contemporary, jazz or musical theatre) with the intention of then joining that "company" in the third year. The third year consists of classes, creation of pieces and then a tour, all of which happen within the company you have chosen (ballet, contemporary, jazz or musical theatre), as well as an independent project/dissertation on a topic of your choice.  I do know however that you do not necessarily have to choose the options for the focus you were offered - I know people who were offered jazz but ended up following a musical theatre route for example. I think the reason behind the format of the initial audition/recall is to ensure that people offered a place have suitable base levels in ballet, contemporary and jazz as well as real strength/potential in at least one. With regards to being offered more than one focus option for a recall, I have heard it is best to attend the recall for the style you think you are strongest in/most likely to be offered a place in, rather than the necessarily which style you eventually want to focus on, as once you arrive at the school you can actually follow whichever route you want (although I'm sure the teachers offer guidance on which they think you are most suited to).  I hope this info helped somewhat - don't take it as 100% accurate though as I have not attended the school myself so this is all hearsay, but this is definitely my understanding of how the course works.
afab Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Your explanation is absolutely right Chassé.Â
annaliesey Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Ive just been looking at LSC and there's a really good diagram showing course modules and levels on the website  http://www.londonstudiocentre.org/courses/ba-hons-theatre-dance 1
Lisa O`Brien Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I`d be interested to know which LSC graduates have gone on to dance with the Royal Ballet. Anyone know?
Jaylou62 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 littleballerina, Laine audition is a song and monologue of 2 minutes max and dance solo is 1 minute 30 seconds.  Good luck for Laine - my dd loved her audition there.
