Anna C Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Off piste slightly (and massive well done to all the recalls and yesses for finals!) but the LSC website confuses me slightly - can you do a 3 year degree in classical ballet there? Or is it a degree in theatre dance and a postgrad year in ballet?
dancing10 Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 My daughter has a call back for the three year classical ballet degree course 2
Anna C Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Congratulations to your dd, dancing10! :-) Is the classical ballet degree 18+?
afab Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 There is no 3 year degree course in a special type of dance at LSC. Everybody has the same classes in the first 2 years and specialises in the 3rd year. There are quite a few options to chose from every term in the first 2 years which allow you to do more ballet or jazz or singing for example but everybody does the same Theatre dance degree. LSC is a wonderful school but not a ballet school perse... 2
afab Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Is the classical ballet degree 18+? Are you still asking about LSC, Anna C? If so, no it's from 16. 1
Anna C Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Are you still asking about LSC, Anna C? If so, no it's from 16. That's great, thank you afab. I'm thinking too far ahead (as usual!) for post upper school really.
dancing10 Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 If my daughter is lucky enough to get a place at LSC she will be 18 at entry x 1
Miracle Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Best wishes to all those waiting for the Rbs upper school results tomorrow.x

dancing10 Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Did anyone get their RBS results today ...if so hope it's good news xx
Miracle Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Hopefully Royal news on Monday as by email so someone will need to be there to push the button.x
Katymac Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I can't believe LSC have changed to a 16 start; DD will be gutted - shewas an associate there and so wanted to go at 16 but they said she had to have UCAS points and be 18 When did they change?
dancing10 Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 As far as I know it hasn't changed, my daughter wasn't allowed to apply last year at 16 x
afab Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 (edited) I'm sorry to hear that Katymac... To answer your question, DD1 auditioned last year at 16 and started this year at 17 so it's least a year old. DD2 auditioned this year and she is 16. The UCAS points are still needed though... Maybe my DDs were allowed to audition because they where in their last year of secondary school... Is your DD happy where she is? Edited February 14, 2016 by afab
Pas de Quatre Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Could it be afab, that your your DD1 had completed her statutory schooling in France so was eligible? Dancers in UK will not have completed schooling until 18 so can only apply then. LSC used to accept at 16, the last year they did so was 2009 entry, and from 2010 onwards it has became age 18. 1
afab Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I think it might have to do with it yes but DD1 is there now and quite a few of her friends are 17. They could be Scottish though...
Picturesinthefirelight Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Scottish ages for starting & leaving school mean that some children are only 17 when they take their Highers whereas in the UK pretty much everyone would be 18 by 31st Aug of the year a levels are taken unless they are exceptionally clever & take them a year early (usually only at private schools)
afab Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I just checked lsc entry requirements and no minimum age is stated as long as one has 3 GCSEs and 2 A'levels and 280 UCAS points.
Picturesinthefirelight Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 That's the thing though afab - almost no-one under 18 would have those qualifications in England as it would mean accelerating by two whole school years. This is almost impossible in the state school system though may be possible for the exceptionally clever in the private system.
afab Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I know Picture, I agree with you it's extremely rare but my point was DD1 is actually not the youngest student there...
Katymac Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Yes it was the 280 pts - not allowed to be made up of Dance/Music exams - but to include level 3 or A level results There was no way she would get Alevels at the local college - the teacher greet them on the first day with the topics they won't cover in class - generally good students spend 3-5 hrs a day on indepentant study & coursewwork so she would pretty much have to give up dance We look at her living with family for her Alevels to go to a better school but decided the Diploma was the best idea & tbh it's worked out fine & she is loving it 3
Miracle Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Anyone heard from Royal from London audition for Upper school? X
amos73 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I know some results are out from London audition for Royal Upper school - DD knows of 2 older girls who go to her dance school who have got finals. 1
Miracle Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Amos is your DD at vocational school as 2 for finals is excellent.x
amos73 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) She is year 6 Miracle, and goes to West London School of Dance (the non vocational branch of YDA) but trains with the year 7s and 8s at YDA. She knows of 2 year 11 girls who have got finals for Royal there. Edited February 19, 2016 by amos73
Guest Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Hi was wondering if anyone could help me- I've got my Laine audition near the end of March, I've confirmed my audition date and everything is fine, I've got the email letter with the nearest hotels etc and how to bring the music for solos etc but can't seem to find the letter or info about the audition day and how long the solo needs to be or the song or monologue!! i remember seeing it at some point but the website link doesn't seem to be working for me either so if anyone who's got an audition there coming up or has done one could DM theirs i would be very grateful!
Dance2013 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 My DD has been offered place at London Studio's with no recall which is amazing and she is over the moon with, but we now have to sort the finances out as the student loan only covers half the fees ???? 4
Miracle Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Congratulations to your DD.Am I right in thinking that the Student loan is only worth £6000 as it is classed as a private so is not worth the £9000? X
invisiblecircus Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Congratulations to everyone who has been awarded a place already or made it to finals! I'm happy to hear LSC mentioned again as it used to be one of THE schools to go to but I haven't heard much about it in recent years, especially for ballet, although I know they've always had an amazing graduate success rate for musical theatre. I'm not sure how many overseas students train there these days, they used to do quite an extensive overseas audition tour I think. If that hasn't changed it could account for the number of 16 and 17 year olds there.
afab Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I was talking about that with DD last week when she was home for the break and she said there are 4 or 5 in the first year if I remember well. Most from the EU and one American... 1
