  1. The Spring 2020 edition of ROH magazine announces a gala to support the ROH Covent Garden Foundation on Wednesday 20 May 2020, comprising a programme of opera and ballet on the main stage. There’s the option of dinner with the performers and ROH staff afterwards. Full details will be shared in the Summer 2020 magazine (out in January).

  4. Casting appears to be up on the individual pages for each date, as accessed via the old-school calendar at https://www.roh.org.uk/evebts/calendar/2020/january and so on.
  5. The promotions list is out! Just seen it on Facebook. I don’t know how to put it here but many people will be pleased here. Can an admin move this please?
  6. Just seen on Twitter (from the RB) that Nehemiah Kish is retiring from the RB at the end of this season. I'm very sad about that, because I feel as if I only started to know/appreciate him recently. It says on the ROH website that he will be embarking on a course of postgraduate study in the arts and cultural policy in the autumn at Goldsmiths, University of London.
  7. This truly 'mixed bill' starts tonight and, on the basis of yesterday's rehearsal (where there were additional cast changes!), it's going to be a terrific end to a wonderful Royal Ballet Season.
  8. Got it.... AutumnBalletCasting2019.pdf NB: For Monotones casting, see Bluebird's post on page 8
  9. Pathé Live is showing the 2019-20 season of Bolshoi broadcasts, but for some reason only in French at the moment: https://www.pathelive.com/programme/ballet-du-bolchoi-19-20
  10. Any idea when we might expect the ROH 19/20 season to be announced? I've never known it so late as this year.

  12. I have Stalls Circle Standing D51 & D52 available for the Monday 13th May 7.30pm performance of Romeo and Juliet at Royal Opera House - cast is Beatriz Stix-Brunell and Ryoichi Hirano making their debuts. £11 per ticket.
  13. Kevin O’Hare announces at tonight’s insight event that all six of the current Aud Jebsen young dancers have contracts to join the company next season. it was also announced that current RBS dancers Brayden Gallucci and Bomin Kim will be joining the programme in September.
  14. Le Royal Ballet à Paris au Festival d'Automne ! https://sceneweb.fr/un-portrait-merce-cunningham-au-festival-dautomne-2019/
  15. The General Rehearsal is on Monday (March 4th) and I can't believe how many rehearsal tickets remain unsold and how many hundreds of seats are still available for every show. I have never seen anything like it. I do hope that they use Student Standby very actively, otherwise there will be swathes of red velvet right in front of the dancers - and that would be such a pity for them.
  16. With a month to go, I thought a topic for news/comments, pre-performance, might be useful. I am pleased to see from social media that on 20 February Steven McRae began rehearsals at the RB with Akane Takada, her debut as Juliet being set for 28 March.
  17. Hello, I have a spare ticket for The Friends's Rehearsal of the Royal Ballet's next triple bill consisting of Within the Golden Hour/Flight Patten/New Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui on Tuesday 7th May 2019 at 11:30am. The seat is located in A-43 of the Stalls Circle (Patrons in front may obstruct view) and costs £24. It is an eticket. Please post here and send a PM if interested. Many thanks
  18. The casting for The Firebird/A Month in the Country/Symphony in C has gone up on the ROH website. Great news as Edward Watson is set to make his comeback partnering Yasmine Naghdi as The Firebird on Opening Night. The 2nd cast The Firebird is Mendizabal/Kish and 3rd cast is Heap/Hirano. https://www.roh.org.uk/mixed-programmes/the-firebird-a-month-in-the-country-symphony-in-c
  19. Looking for a stalls circle standing ticket for Kaneko/Bracewell (formerly Kaneko/Corrales) on Wednesday 27th February. Please contact me if you have a spare to sell, I would be very grateful!
  20. As 2019 has just got underway and next seasons programme is due to be announced in three or four months perhaps now may be a good time to discuss what we'd like to see in Kevin O'Hares announcement. You never know, there may be a gap in his schedule that may benefit from a few suggestions. My main wish list is very brief and consists of Onegin, Onegin and Onegin! Not just because Onegin is one of my favourite ballets but of the horrible prospect of possibly losing it from the RB rep. If it isn't performed then as it hasn't been performed for several years. I keep thinking of all the potential new Onegins and Tatianas there are currently in the RB (not to mention Olgas and Lenskys) and imagine whom I'd like to see. It's a very long list! After Onegin I'd like to see more Ashton and possibly see the reinstatement of the Ashton double/triple bill. Also Sylvia filmed for the cinema with Vadim (and preferably Naghdi) as it should have been last time. This would also boost what seems to be the rather paltry, half hearted Fonteyn celebrations. Also If more obscure Ashton could be revived that would be a real bonus as there is a very real danger of losing more obscure works as time goes by. I sometimes feel our founder choreographer isn't appreciated by current management in his old company as much as he should be. Finally, though I have been concentrating on the Royal Ballet company as they are the company I see the most of and have the largest rep. and the most opportunity for choice there is no reason to limit the wish list to one particular company or indeed, country. Nothing to stop it being an international wish list.
  21. I've been to a couple of daytime events in the Floral Hall recently - one of the Month of Sundays mornings and today the Ballet Studio Live:Class, and I thought both were well run events and a good use of the space to generate additional revenue. Today apparently sold out quite early, and seems set to become a regular feature. Today's dancers were mostly from the Aub Jebsen programme , which I hadn't been aware of before. Several were quite impressive, so fingers crossed for them getting full contracts in due course. Taisuko Nakao had some serious height in his jumps, and of the girls Katherina Nikelski and Yu Hang looked very neat and accomplished, while Lania Atkins was also both graceful and striking. More of this kind of thing!
  22. A fuller cast list for tonight's opening performance is now here: https://www.roh.org.uk/events/whm7y Not complete though, as far as I can see - Rose Fairy, for example?
