  1. From the ROH just now. My bolding: Dear xxxxxx It is with regret that we must cancel the upcoming Ballet Studio Live event. The programme was due to feature performers from companies involved in International Draft Works, which we have had to cancel due to global travel disruption caused by the COVID-19 outbreak. The cancellation of International Draft Works means that Ballet Studio Live
  2. SADLER’S WELLS ANNOUNCES NEXT DANCE PERFORMANCE AND WORKSHOPS ON ITS DIGITAL STAGE DURING COVID-19 CANCELLATIONS Today Sadler’s Wells announced this week’s additions to its Digital Stage programme – a special matinee screening of balletLORENT’S Rumpelstiltskin this Friday 3 April, and the first dance at home workshops for families and older audiences. Rumpelstiltskin is the next production available to watch via Sadler’s Wells’ Facebook Premieres, part of its free online performance platform, Digital Stage. It will be available on Friday 3 April at 3p
  3. Shall we select our “top five” ballet streams of the past five+ months? With last night’s closing program from Vail, an intense dance-stream season is winding down. I made my selections based only on “brand new” content that had never before been streamed or cinemacast before the COVID situation. In other words, either new works or, if already seen, danced by a company not before seen in a certain ballet. First, my top-15 (or so) shortlist, by city/company...all very generous with streaming: Buenos Aires, Teatro Colon Ballet: Coppelia in the beloved version
  4. This arrived in my inbox this afternoon: Dear Birmingham Royal Ballet Supporter I am delighted to update you on some of the wonderful work that has been taking place behind the scenes here, and to update you specifically on Carlos Acosta’s plans for this autumn and Christmas. Before I do however, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our Friends and Dancers’ Circle supporters, and to everyone who has made a donation to our #BeRightBack campaign over the last few months. O
  5. A thread for any thoughts arising from the BBC's "Proms" season this year: archive recordings until a couple of weeks before the end of the season, by which time we should be getting some live concerts, even if their current programmes are as yet unspecified. My first, rather random, thought: is Rossini's overture to Semiramide as reminiscent of the music for La Sylphide as I thought it was on Wednesday?
  6. It’s been almost three months since the full-ballet streamings began. Is anyone else beginning to experience Stream Fatigue? How many hours in each day do we have? Not that I’m not grateful. Just sayin’. 😏
  7. The Vail Dance Festival, as spearheaded by the extraordinary Damian Woetzel, has announced a Digital Festival. Details of such are as follows - We are thrilled to bring you the Vail Dance Festival: Digital Edition July 31-August 7, 2020! This special online series of events will feature unique performances from the past 10 years including debuts and revivals that have only been seen in Vail, a world premiere choreographed by Bobbi Jene Smith made in, and for, the virtual space, plus
  8. Great news. I was sent the following email by a good friend who subscribes to a dance series at the University of Minnesota, where ABT is set to tour its Don Q in April. One of the performances will be a livestream option for $25 a household. No details yet about casting or platform to be used (locked Youtube, Vimeo or other). The notification from the university: https://tickets.umn.edu/northrop/online/default.asp?doWork%3A%3AWScontent%3A%3AloadArticle=Load&BOparam%3A%3AWScontent%3A%3AloadArticle%3A%3Aarticle_id=9F1C3F79-885E-4CBF-B1E1-2C605531684C So will other dan
  9. Northern Ballet has issued an End of Season announcement. The dancers leaving the company have been listed but they have stated there will be no promotions due to the C-19 pandemic and new dancers cannot yet be announced. https://northernballet.com/blogs/northern-ballet/20-07-01/2020-leavers I feel so sad for the dancers who have retired having missed their valedictory performances due to the pandemic. Of course this has affected many dancers in many companies. The leavers are Hannah Bateman (retiring), Nicola Gervasi (retiring), Nina Querioz da Silva, Abi
  10. The Allegro Youtube link is here. What a way to start the day. A defining reason for a 72 hour smile .... (Well, for me at any rate )
  11. I really enjoyed this last night. From the one previous time I've seen it (on DVD) I'm not a huge fan of Nureyev's choreography. But thought the performances here were great. I was completely gripped by act 3 in particular - Cojocaru was incredible. But also something about the whole atmosphere made it feel even more intense than usual. This was another filmed version very clearly not meant for public viewing, with bits of the action apparently only available from what seemed to be some kind of security camera. Another angle showed the full orchestra playing while the dancing and the action un
  12. Streaming of "Giselle" with Natalia Osipova and Nikita Chetverikov from Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre can be watched now. It might be available until late afternoon tomorrow.
  13. Looks like help might be on its way (zoom in on the embedded front page):
  14. If you've been visiting this site via a computer, you will probably already have noticed that a Calendar has appeared on the right-hand side of the page, listing streaming dates for various items of interest. It's also at the bottom of the "page" on smartphones if you scroll far enough. (It was very annoying, constantly missing out on things because they were posted all over the place and it was difficult to keep track.) It's been put together in rather a hurry, and we're still playing with it, but do feel free to add anything which is on for only a limited length of time - I don't think y
  15. Extract from Elmhurst Press Release: ‘In conversation with Sander Blommaert’ invites renowned names from the ballet world to be interviewed on his Instagram Live on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at 7pm. Many dance illuminati have agreed to join Sander ‘in conversation’ – coming up in the next few months, are: Mara Galeazzi (17 April); Céline Gittens (20 April); Edward Watson (24 April); Christopher Wheeldon (27 April); Gary Avis (29 April); Elmhurst’s Principal Jessica Wheeler (1 May); César Morales (4 May); and Aaron Robinson (8 May).
  16. I saw on YouTube that the full performance [Broken Wings] starring Tamara Rojo will be streamed on 22nd April at 7pm. Excited to see this ballet again!
  17. The full version of the recent production of Mariinsky, 'The Four Seasons', from Mariinsky TV is available on youtube channel. This starring the amazing Ekaterina Kondaurova and the Vivaldi score re orchestrated by Max Richter.
  18. Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere but San Francisco Ballet are currently uploading a video each week - this week it's Anima Animus choreographed by David Dawson with music by Ezio Bosso - well worth watching, I think it's absolutely sublime (for me it was the highlight of their visit to London last year). https://www.sfballet.org/sf-ballet-home/ The ballet changes on Fridays (overnight UK time). The filming is superb (I think because the recordings are for the archives) - the camera only zooms in and out depending on how many dancers are on stage and
  19. It was reported on the news tonight that La Scala is closed because of the coronavirus outbreak. I don't know how much the ballet is affected by this, and in fact, what their schedule is at all. Do they alternate performances with the opera as they do at Covent Garden?
  20. Perm Opera Ballet are currently streaming 'La Petite Fadette' on youtube. https://youtu.be/8nkhTvB3ySA
  21. I don’t know about “y’all,” but I’m totally pumped for tonight’s SUPER GISELLE HOUSE PARTY to view Pacific NW Ballet’s historically-informed Giselle (film of a fabulous 2014 performance starring Kaori Nakamura and Jerome Tisserand). It happens tonight at 7:00 pm Pacific time (10 pm Eastern US)...late for friends in the UK & Europe, I realize...maybe folks can access it for a while after? Access requires a donation - “of any amount” - whatever one can give. Instructions for accessing the show will be emailed to donors today, ahead of the House Party...not just the full ballet b
  22. Whilst the theatres in Kazakhstan are closed and the capital Astana is in lock-down, Kazakh TV has a schedule of broadcasting opera and ballet performances online, but they are only shown once, not available for repeated viewing. Kazakhstan is 6 hours ahead of the UK, but will be five hours ahead, after the clocks go forward in the UK tonight. The National Ballet Company performs at the Astana Opera House and was founded about ten years ago. Seven years ago, it moved into the brand new theatre and school complex in Astana. Astana, a new city, is the capital of Kazakhs
  23. I'm new to ballet in middle life. I don't know much about it and only have a few weeks of trying it out (Baroque dance is more my thing, but only have a few years experience). Anyway, someone pointed me to ENB's watch party of Broken Wings this week. I'd thought I'd give it a go but wasn't sure what to expect. But wow, I mean WOW!. Moving, comic, sad and sometimes disturbing - completely blown away by it and want to watch it again. But can't! Just very cool and gets me to want to explore more.
