  1. Starved of live dance? If you are in or near London head to the Potemkin Theatre, Hoxton Docks in East London for free live outdoor performances on ... Sunday 5th July 3pm, 5pm and 7pm A number of Royal Ballet dancers are involved ....Valentino Zucchetti, David Donnelly, Luca Acri, Harry Churches and Annette Buvoli (performing The Dying Swan) plus dancers from other disciplines. It seems only to be advertised on Instagram ....
  2. An unexpected (given their scheduling) pleasure to have O'Sullivan/Hay dance the General Rehearsal today I didn't catch all the cast changes, can anyone confirm who danced the Fairy of the Crystal Fountain ?
  3. Tonight's premiere of Cathy Marston's The Cellist at the Royal Opera House is an event I've looked forward to, since long before I heard she had the commission. It is twinned with a revival of Dances at a Gathering. Discussion here please.
  4. I have just realised that there is a performance of Anastasia on the saturday evening that I'm going to be in London in November - it's with Cuthbertson, Lamb and Macrae. They have some really good tickets still available and if I were on my own I'd have gone like a shot, but I'm going to be with my husband who is not a ballet buff. The last time I saw it was with Lynn Seymour (yes that long ago) and I can't decide what to do. I'd be grateful for some opinions on it - has anyone seen it lately or remembers it better than I do??????
  5. Although we have a separate thread on the recent transmission of the Royal Ballet School's "Peter and the Wolf" , I thought I'd start an overarching thread for all the Royal Opera House's "Our House To Your House" showings. I am, unsurprisingly, loving seeing the Royal Opera/Royal Ballet coproduction of Acis and Galatea again Ed Watson will be making an appearance soon (well, heck, sorry, I've been suffering withdrawal symptoms)
  6. Does anyone know when the London RBS MA results are coming out?
  7. Could anyone tell me when the 20/21 season is announced please?
  8. Starting this thread perhaps a little early, but I've just noticed that the first night tomorrow starts at 7 PM, and hope everyone who has tickets has realized this!
  9. This is available now for streaming. Recorded about 10 years ago. Where are the students who appeared in it now ? I'm sure that some people out there will know. And, by the way, why do I have nagging memories of Martin Harvey in Peter and the Wolf ? An earlier version ? Seems like there was one back in 1995. Your memories please ?
  10. Well, it will soon be time for my Mayerling fix (!) and I have tickets for all three Watsons. But I would like to see somebody else and seem to remember forum members raving about Bonelli and Morera. Am I right? Oh, and does anyone know if Ed Watson is fit again??????????
  11. Casting appears to be up on the individual pages for each date, as accessed via the old-school calendar at https://www.roh.org.uk/evebts/calendar/2020/january and so on.
  12. hi all, One ticket on offer for Insights: The Royal Ballet in Rehearsal | 27 March | 7:45pm Linbury | Upper Circle| Row A, Seat 46 £20 This is a paper ticket I can mail to you.
  13. Cast for today's General...Nunez, Takada, Hirano, Edmonds, Braendsrod. Plus McGorian as "A Widow", Murphy as "Nurse". Very pleased to be here!☺
  14. Any sign of Spring casting yet? I think it was due to go up early this week.
  15. With a month to go, I thought a topic for news/comments, pre-performance, might be useful. I am pleased to see from social media that on 20 February Steven McRae began rehearsals at the RB with Akane Takada, her debut as Juliet being set for 28 March.
  16. Good to see via YouTube and am struck yet again by the sheer hard work that has to go in to creating such roles and ballets. Not sure how Ryoichi Hirano managed to talk at the end. Good also to see Melissa Hamilton. I didn't think this was the best Insight but it's certainly whetted my appetite for performances next month. But from the relay there seemed to be a number of empty seats and why has the Royal Opera House been so limp in publicising the event and relay? Perhaps Open Up has required all available resources but the Insight Programme and website changes seem rather neglected. I do hope the website will put a link to the YouTube film as soon as possible.
  17. The ROH has announced a new Wayne McGregor work, to be premiered by the NBC in November 2020 and then be performed by the RB in 2022: 'In this major new international collaboration between The Royal Ballet and The National Ballet of Canada, Royal Ballet Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor brings Margaret Atwood’s post-apocalyptic vision to the stage in a three–act ballet, MADDADDAM based on the writer’s acclaimed trilogy of novels: Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Flood and MaddAddam. Themes of extinction and invention, hubris and humanity are spliced together with aspects of Atwood’s non-fiction writings and political voice. Featuring a specially commissioned score from Max Richter, lighting by Lucy Carter, design by We Not I, film by Ravi Deepres, and dramaturgy by Uzma Hameed, this world premiere reunites the creative collaborators from McGregor’s Olivier Award-winning ballet Woolf Works. Kevin O’Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet comments ’Wayne’s genius in bringing together some of the most exciting creative forces in art today reveals itself again with this latest venture. Collaborating with Margaret Atwood, author of some of the most haunting and potent writing in contemporary literature, is a wonderful prospect for our next co-production with The National Ballet of Canada. It’s a dazzling opportunity for dancers from both of our companies to relish.’ Karen Kain, Artistic Director for The National Ballet of Canada adds ‘I am thrilled The National Ballet of Canada will premiere Wayne McGregor’s exciting new work, MADDADDAM, our third co-production with The Royal Ballet, in November 2020. I have long admired Wayne for his intelligent, visually stunning and highly physical work that continually pushes the boundaries of creativity. He has a perfect collaborator in Margaret Atwood. Together they are creating a work firmly rooted in the Canadian landscape exploring themes of extinction and invention, hubris and humanity and activism.’'
  18. I don't think we have a similar thread to this which I hope will be useful for alerting people to what web relays are coming up, where and when. N.B. I have changed the title of this thread to point out that it is for notices of Insight Events and where to find the links for web streaming before (and after) the events. Wider discussion of Insights should be in Royal Ballet Insights and Rehearsals discussion.

  20. I've been to a couple of daytime events in the Floral Hall recently - one of the Month of Sundays mornings and today the Ballet Studio Live:Class, and I thought both were well run events and a good use of the space to generate additional revenue. Today apparently sold out quite early, and seems set to become a regular feature. Today's dancers were mostly from the Aub Jebsen programme , which I hadn't been aware of before. Several were quite impressive, so fingers crossed for them getting full contracts in due course. Taisuko Nakao had some serious height in his jumps, and of the girls Katherina Nikelski and Yu Hang looked very neat and accomplished, while Lania Atkins was also both graceful and striking. More of this kind of thing!
  21. Scrolling down the ROH website just now, I noticed that the new Cathy Marston ballet, now entitled 'The Cellist' , is to be shown with a revival of Robbins' Dances at a Gathering rather than the previously-scheduled but otherwise undefined Scarlett ballet. Does anyone have any further information regarding this change in scheduling and, for that matter, when the casting is likely to be released?
  22. This truly 'mixed bill' starts tonight and, on the basis of yesterday's rehearsal (where there were additional cast changes!), it's going to be a terrific end to a wonderful Royal Ballet Season.
  23. Pathé Live is showing the 2019-20 season of Bolshoi broadcasts, but for some reason only in French at the moment: https://www.pathelive.com/programme/ballet-du-bolchoi-19-20
  24. Got it.... AutumnBalletCasting2019.pdf NB: For Monotones casting, see Bluebird's post on page 8
  25. I am wondering which Summer Schools people recommend for a 15 year old (as a precursor to Upper school application year)? Has anyone been/ applied for the Vaganova Academy by video please?
