  1. Anyone know when you hear back from the RBS Summer School Applications? We've applied for White Lodge SS. I know that hardly anyone gets offered it but I was just wondering 😊
  2. My daughter is auditioning for the JA's this year. My sister previously auditioned and was asked to demonstrate her flexibility. Box splits etc. Has anyone else's child experienced the audition? I was just wondering what sort of things they will be asked to do.
  3. Just wondering what the assessment procedure is for JAs and Mids. Do parents get feedback throughout the year? Do the students get an idea of their weaker areas before the assessments so they know what to work on beforehand? Apparently Elmhurst Associates do not give parents any feedback of their child's progress at any point during the year and no report at the end of the year for Extended Associates. How can they justify this?
  4. Hi, A little boy who I teach at my local dance school has a JA audition soon; does anyone know what is involved in the auditions for a year 5 JA, or have any tips I can give him? Thank you! x
  5. Hi, does anyone have a child that is currently a Junior associate that also does dance festivals? Just wondered how you find it and whether you have spoken to RBS about it? From what I understand its kind of looked down on to do the festivals, so I presume it's not a good enough reason to miss any sessions. So far my dd has put royal over festivals and hasn't missed any sessions, however becoming increasingly difficult when she is now in groups and has duet partners etc, Any advice or similar experience?
  6. Hi there. I am new to this forum as well as the world of ballet at vocational level. My daughter is 12 and although she has an audition date for RBS MA's in Jan (which I believe the majority of applicants get anyway) both applications for the Spring Intensive programmes at WL and HK were sadly declined. Although the email still encourages us to reapply for future courses, I was just wondering if any other applicants have experienced the same rejection email/letters and how many times they were declined before their application was finally accepted? I realise that the demand is high and the number of places are limited. But as RBS do not offer individual feedback, I did not want to continue paying a deposit for each application if they think my child does not fit the RBS's "ideal" profile. I am thinking that the audition she has in January will be a good indicator. In the meantime, we will keep our options open and start looking at other schools. I would be interested in hearing anyone elses experience.
  7. My daughter currently attends year 5 Junior Associates in London and is hoping to get a place at White Lodge in September, although we realise how small a chance she has. Consequently, she will plan to audition to get into Mid Associates but as she will then be in Year 7 in her senior school there are expectations on the sporty girls, which she is generally, to take part in fixtures on Saturday mornings. So I'm wondering how I'm going to do all of this, obviously with the huge assumption that she will get into Mids?! Junior Associates are 11.30 currently but I'm hoping if the Mid Associate classes might be later in the afternoon we could get her there after fixures. Does anybody know the times of the classes in London? Many thanks.

  9. Hello! I am hoping someone can help me as I don’t have much experience in the ballet world!! I am wondering whether to apply for my daughter to audition for junior associates with RBS or not. She is 8 in July will be one of the youngest. She has only been dancing for 1.5 years and has only just passed grade 1. She only dances for 45 minutes per week so will not be as experienced as other dancers. I know they say not much experience is needed but is this really true? If it’s just potential they are looking for then we may stand a chance! Her ballet teacher says she has a lot of potential. I just don’t know whether it is worth us applying or not! She does LOVE dancing which I think is important! She doesn’t stop constantly dancing round the house. My second question is how flexible do they have to be? She is fairly flexible as in she can almost do box splits but she’s not quite there.... Thanks for your advice! X
  10. Hi, I have an audition for the royal ballet school in a couple of weeks for senior associates and I don't have a clue what's going to happen. What will the audition be set out like? I am so nervous that all the girls there will be supper flexible and amazing at ballet. Also what should I wear and what about makeup? I am so nervous! I would be grateful of any information or tips. Thanks
  11. I wonder if anyone can shed any light on whether there are different categories of waiting list for Associates (JAs or MAs)? My DC was put on the waitlist for MAs this year and I was told there was no order to the waitlist by the woman in Royal office, yet someone else has told me they've heard of people being on a 'top select' waitlist for MAs. As the waitlist closed recently (I and others I know whose DC were on the waitlist were emailed by Royal saying they close it at the end of this half term), I was also interested to find out that someone who has this 'top select' waitlist has not been told it has closed but that it will stay open till December. I was interested to know if anyone on here had direct experience of this 'top select' category, i.e. if a child has been offered a place from the waitlist were they in this category? Does it stay open till December? I have asked the associates office at Royal direct but they have again said there is no order and the waitlist is closed. Thanks!
  12. Hello! Last year I attended the RBS audition insight day and really got a lot out of it, as well as a lovely class and day out! I have also heard of the Ballet Boost course, which sounds wonderful. Really, I just wanted to know all of the options out there? My half term is very weirdly late (from 30th October) and I expect I will have to take a day off school! At the moment I am thinking Ballet Boost because of the feedback etc, but am nervous that I would be the youngest and worst there, as I would be in the Upper School audition category. Good luck everyone with the coming year, and thank you in advance
  13. Can anyone help? I'm getting desperate. The lady who I asked to make my daughter's skirt is now unable to and I'm stuck. I can't find anyone locally and have tried phoning the recommended service however the lovely chap says the worst case scenario is 3 weeks to make the skirt and my daughter starts on the 9th Sept. Does anyone please please have a skirt for sale? My DD is 8, and 21"-ish waist. Even if someone has one they could kindly and trustingly lend me until I can get one made and I will then send it back.
  14. Am I right in thinking all the initial auditions are done for WL now? Does anyone know how many they saw? DD was at audition yesterday and there seemed to be a fairly equal split of JA leotards, and (presumably) JAs, but that might have just been our group. I was in a bit of a daze (too early for me) - think they said we will hear by email in 2 - 3 weeks. does that sound right to people hearing last year? Good luck to all the DC, they all looked beautiful in our group. Admin: I didn't see a post for WL auditions for this year so please merge if I missed it.
  15. Can anybody give any comments from first hand experience of what the upper school accommodation in Pimlico is like - I'm interested in what life is like for the boys or should I rather say young men..... How long does it take to travel from the accommodation to the school ? Is it self catering? I see they have the option to eat in the Royal opera house staff canteen ... Are rooms shared? Are the men housed in the same building / area as the Ladies? are there laundry facilities? To what extent are they supervised in the living quarters ? thanks!
  16. Hi Everyone, My DD was at the RBS mid associates audition today. She seemed to have a positive experience of it all. Now the long wait until we get the news! Good luck to everyone else who was there!
  17. Hi there have decided to put in an application for my daughter to attend RBS SS. Will take photos tomorrow. Any advice, tips, suggestions? Any opinions if we should apply for week 1 or week 2. Shes 12. Any general advice/thoughts? Thanks!
  18. As RBS JAs is such a popular subject, I have started this thread intended for FAQs on the subject, similar to the pinned threads about Upper and Lower School auditions. If you have questions about RBS JAs, please feel free to post them in this thread so that all the questions are in the same place. Below are links to previous threads on the subject of JAs; I will add more links as I find them. Please have a read through them in case your question has already been asked and answered there: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/9130-rbs-junior-associate-ja-questions/ http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/8919-manchesterleeds-ja-times/ http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/8831-rbs-ja-programme-advice/?view=findpost&p=117246&hl=%22rbs+associates%22 http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/7577-rbs-jas-trying-again/?view=findpost&p=101723&hl=%22rbs+associates%22 http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/3247-rbs-junior-associates-auditions/?view=findpost&p=37693&hl=%22rbs+associates%22 http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/6069-ja-experience-day-and-general-queries/?view=findpost&p=79794&hl=%22rbs+associates%22 http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/554-ja-auditions-2012/?view=findpost&p=7181&hl=%22rbs+associates%22 http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/160-rbs-ja-any-tips-for-a-novice-mum/?view=findpost&p=1486&hl=%22rbs+associates%22 http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/83-rbs-ja-auditions/?view=findpost&p=534&hl=%22rbs+associates%22
  19. We received a nicely worded email from the Royal Ballet yesterday late afternoon inviting parents to audition their child for Summer School. It came from the Summer School email address not Auditions. Has anyone else received one yesterday afternoon? Not sure why we have one.X
  20. I've just had an email to say DD hasn't got a place for SA's - I know the chances of gaining a place are minimal but I just don't know how to tell her! She's at dance at the moment and I know she is going to be devastated. She auditioned for JAs and has done so every year, without success. She is such a lovely dancer and has achieved so much, but her confidence is gradually disappearing. Good luck to everyone else waiting to hear x
  21. Help! DS is going to his JA audition next week and I havent a clue where I'm going! It's the Centre Pointe place in Manchester. I'd prefer to get a taxi from the main ManchesterPiccadilly train Station. Is this possible?? How much approximately?? Thank you! S xx
  22. Hiya guys, Quick question on behalf of the little fella! Any more boys coming to the JA's audition in Manchester on 4th May @10am? He's very excited, mostly about having a day off "boring school" as he calls it! ?? Will be travelling up from North Wales...? S xx
  23. I thought I had decided on which summer school to do, until a kind member suggested OPES! Wow. It looks great to do up to 3 weeks of ballet! In weeks the English school system can do! So, could anybody tell me what OPES is like? RBS is my first choice of course, but I thought I had decided on Moorland. Can anybody tell me what Moorland SS is like too? I feel like I'm going to end up doing a week at Ballet West, a week Moorland and a week OPES, but I doubt my parents would agree! Thank you!
  24. On 7th April, 2017, Paris Opera will be holding a 2nd ballet schools gala featuring an exciting selection of schools, including RBS: The Royal Danish Ballet School, The Vaganova Academy (Saint‑Pétersbourg), The Royal Ballet School (Londres), San Francisco Ballet School, Canada’s National Ballet School, John Cranko Schule – Stuttgarter Ballett, Ballettschule des Hamburg Ballett Further details at: https://www.operadeparis.fr/en/season-16-17/ballet/gala-des-ecoles-de-danse-du-xxie-siecle The site mentions lectures and other activities taking place during the ballet schools' visit - I've written to ask for details of any rehearsals/classes/talks etc. that we could attend. Earlier the same month (1st, 3rd and 4th April), the Paris Opera School has their own annual performance. Also the Paris Opera Ballet School's annual demonstrations (showing what the students are doing in their different classes and giving an amazing insight into the POB system of training) will be held this year on 3rd 11th and 17th December (Same performances on each of the three days. Usually they have the younger grades in the morning and the older grades in the afternoon; sometimes they swap these around.) Public booking for the above opens on 13th September. I'm able to book from today with my groups booking account. If you know me and would like to join the group or could use some tips about getting your own group purchase, just send me a PM. One problem with POB's group tickets (as opposed to their individual ones) is that they are paper, not electronic. This can be a bit tricky if you find you can't come and need to pass the ticket on to someone else at the last minute, though I've found that the Paris Opera have been very accommodating about reprinting. Also happy to help with some cheap/group travel and accommodation options if there's interest. Yafa
  25. Anyone else going?? DS is, but he recently got a "no" from the Hammond so is feeling a bit wobbly about it. I think he struggled with the names of some of the positions, he's borderline dyslexic so has an amazing memory for some things and picks things up very quickly but may not know what a "fouetté" or a "entrechat" is even though he can do them. Apparantly the teacher at the Hammond just used the French words which threw him. Anyone who has been before or have any advice for him would be fab! Also where are they held? We'd be travelling over so need to look at places to hang out. Thank you! ????????????????????????????????????????
