  1. hi!! I've got the first of all my auditions tomorrow (Laban) and searching for some very last minute tips/words of wisdom...
  2. Hello! My dance teacher suggested I look at dance training overseas (still in europe though probably rather than like america) bc the fees are cheaper and the training is supposedly of a higher standard than here in the uk. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience about this, or knew of anywhere of interest i should have a look at? thank you! Edited to add: by this i mean training post 18, i.e. university/vocational school equivalent!!
  3. hi, I'm currently in the process of applying for vocational training and university and I was really surprised at how little the websites give away as to what the auditions actually involve? in most cases it's not even clear whether a solo is needed or not so I've had to email around. anyway, obviously I will need a solo at some stage and I really don't know where to start at all, material or music wise! also, one school said no longer than a minute and a half, another one said no longer than 3 minutes and there's just about every length in between. can I just use the same one and a half minute solo? any tips

  6. Hi, I wanted to share some exciting news with you about a new dance centre opening in Bradford city centre. The Bradford Dance Centre will open its doors to the public in August 2015 and will be the only dedicated space for dance within the city centre. The centre will have three professional dance studios and will offer a range of classes and courses for children, young people and adults, In September, we are offering a one-year, part-time, foundation course in professional contemporary dance, for adults (aged 18+). Students study for 17.5 hours per week over two evenings and all day Saturday, which means the course can easily be combined with work or additional study. This is an intensive, progressive, practical training programme offering 11 practical classes per week (including 6 contemporary technique classes and 2 ballet technique classes). Students can undertake nationally recognised qualifications from a level 1 certificate, up to a level 4 diploma (which is the equivalent of the first year of an undergraduate degree). As far as we know, this is the only part time professional programme for adults available in the UK, outside London. There are no formal entry requirements and no audition! Applicants will be selected based on their desire and motivation to undertake the course, demonstrated on their application form. Students will be allocated to groups according to their level of ability, so we accept students with a range of experience and abilities, although it is not recommended for complete beginners. If you are serious about your dance training, but feel you might not meet the traditional criteria of a vocational school, this course will be perfect for you. Please see website on signature below for further details and an application form. Bradford Dance Centre is a not-for-profit social enterprise and a UK registered training provider. Many thanks, Bradford Dance Centre

  10. Hi there, I'm living in Ireland and have two years left in secondary school, so I'm starting to look at possible colleges to audition for in 2016. I'd like to train as a contemporary dancer, but would prefer to go to a college that would also give me a strong ballet base. Although I am interested in and enjoy performing most modern and contemporary dance styles, I love more ballet influenced choreography, and watching contemporary dancers who clearly have a strong ballet technique (like the dancer of Nederlands Dans Theater!) I was wondering if anyone knew of any schools that would be suitable for me? I'm looking for somewhere where I can study for a BA in dance, and am thinking of schools in Europe. I've been looking at Fontys Dansacademie in the Netherlands, Palucca Hochschule in Germany and maybe Rosella Hightower in Cannes... does anyone know anything about these schools or have any others to suggest? Thank you, any help would be much appreciated!!
