  1. Thanks Anjuli and DrDance for your considered and knowledgeable replies. I'm still not quite sure what I think about gym and ballet. Do any members have a child at vocational ballet school where gym/acro is on the syllabus I wonder? Hambleton
  2. Looking at the current thread about ballet training combined with modern/tap training, I have been wondering for a long time about whether my DD and DS would benefit from gym/acro skills, even though they are going down a classical ballet route? Do vocational schools offer these lessons to girls and boys I wonder? My children have never been taught to do a 'Fame' or star jump for example, yet such moves are often seen from male dancers in dance shows of all genres. ENB I believe had male dancers 'tumbling' in their classical production of Romeo and Juliet. Generally being 'acrobatic', especially for a male, seems to add something to the skill-set. I am aware that traditionally gym and ballet do not go hand in hand, but when it comes to looking for a job, would it be a good thing if they had acro skills? It is preying on my mind, so any answers gratefully received!
  3. My son is taking part, and as far as I know Jonathan Watkins is replacing Nehemiah Kish. I don't know how much the tickets are sorry.
  4. Sounds like Elmhurst SS was excellent for the older dancers. My dd will be 14 at the end of this year, so she was thinking about applying for next year but would be one of the younger ones there. Does anyone know who teaches the younger age-group, and if it is enjoyable as well as an amazing learning experience? She generally goes to YBSS, but might like a change for next Summer.
  5. Not really an ingrowing toenail query, but a general toenail question. My DS has been doing a lot of end of term performances recently and the toenail on his fourth toe, which had been rubbing a bit inside his shoe, was sore enough for him to show his dance teacher (lucky her ). She said that in her opinion all his toenails were too long, which made me wonder how short most dancers have their toenails? She seemed to him to be implying there should be very little 'white' left on the nail and they should be cut shorter than a non-dancer's nail. I had always thought this could lead to ingrowing toenails, but not being a dancer, I have no idea. I will check with our GP when we next have an appointment, but just for interest does anyone have any thoughts on this please?
  6. Slightly off topic - I realised I was a rubbish dance mum when I eventually found out that the several years of comments on how good my dd's turnout was had nothing to do with me providing lovely clean leotards and tights! (I honestly thought it was down to me...)
  7. Tutugirl, my DS was also going for 10-13 scholarship but we can't make the date due to NYB recall. Imagine there will be others in same situation maybe
  8. No not heard, Lottie. Thanks for reminding me about payment date. Are you going to go for a scholarship?
  9. DS has done YBS for past three years, and very happy to go back this time if gets a place. He's been non-residential so far. One thing to bear in mind is there is a Gala evening every other year at the Grand Opera House with an amazing cast list, including RB/ENB Principals (2013 will be a Gala year). Only children doing the two week course are eligible to be in the Gala. DS has only ever done one week, so not participated, though we did go and watch the Gala and saw the other students taking part.
  10. Good afternoon all, Does anyone know any other DD going for funding audition for Yr9 at 11:15 on the 20th? Hi Miracle. Hope your dd/ds enjoyed the day today. it is a lovely school. Best wishes for a good result. Hambleton
  11. There's a thread about RB new season on the 'news' forum which mentioned some of RB company going to perform at Snape,Suffolk and N Ireland. Good news for you thequays!
  12. But royal ballet coming to northern Ireland 2013 I believe
  13. I personally think a mix of RAD work and 'free' work is a good thing. RAD is the only syllabus I am at all familiar with. As far as I know Tring students do their Inter, then miss out Advanced Foundation, going straight to Advanced 1, but don't quote me on that!
  14. A no unfortunately for my friend's DD for Year 7.
  15. Has anyone heard about the Easter course yet? Applied for my child ages ago and had an acknowledgement but nothing else since. Also, could anyone tell me anything about the course as we have not been there before? - age 13 and about to take RAD Inter.
