  1. All the dancers are ambitious. They all work hard and strive to get to a place they feel meets their goals. Entering into a marriage to gain a job, then giving an interview to a paper stating things that she feels will make the public sympathetic and take any onus off her own responsibility is more then ambition. This is manipulative and to say such things as she is quoted as saying and then claim to not want to name anyone as she "trusts" them says more about her then it does about the Bolshoi. I raised my four children to be responsible for their actions. If she wanted to be forthcoming and come across as more genuine then she should have said who said what, where and when. Not some half statements that lead the public to assume Filin is to blame and create some excuse for why she is not at Bolshoi anymore. Is there an excuse really needed? I do not doubt the issue of paying money was broached to her. I do however question whether she was actually asked or if that was just a piece of lame advice given to her. Many of the dancers have fathers, husbands on the back of Bolshoi. Yet they are in the corps as well.
  2. I did read about the marriage of this young woman to some young man and I felt quite terrible for him. I believe the marriage was refered to as a "sham". What I find quite contrary regarding this young lady is that she has such religious tweets and seems to put forth such a devote persona and her actions are suspect at least they are to me. Where are the parents in all of this?
  3. It certainly is a heartbreak though I would not be too quick to assume her version of events are the only accurate version. Some of the company dancers and staff have spoken up disputing her story and they have every right to our consideration as she does. My old age has taught me that there are always more sides to a story.
  4. I love this. It's so interesting to watch what ballet can offer people of all sizes regardless of their sex. Ballet offers individuals so much more then just physical fitness. It also offers an introduction to abstract thinking at an early age and a keen sense of discipline.
  5. Thank you Janet. Yes it was RWBS not the company. I was responding to another post regarding Vienna and stating that I feel there is a difference between nude photos and pornographic films. The dancer was not in the top level of the school and at his age I suspect the school brought him in to partner. I did not see any statement from him regarding finances or parental support. I am assuming he was paid for his participation in the film. As a visa student working may be difficult. It is hard to envision a 22 year old on scholarship being able to live without any allowance. I agree the school had to let him go, but why was he there in the first place? There are too many youngsters in the school for RWBS and many better suited schools which cater to a vocational student of that age.
  6. There have been graffic nude photos of many other male dancers online for years. Nureyev and Legris to just name a few. I do believe that the reason Vienna reinstated the female dancer they terminated for nude photos was because she easily proved that Legris also had done the same. There are many dancers who pose nude eg stastsoper Berlin but that is completely different from a homosexually based phonographic video.
  7. I also was fortunate to see both Giselle and Don Quichotte. I was unable to find Osipova believeable in Giselle. There seemed to be a lack of fraility. Both Vasiliev and Osipova are technically delightful but it detracted from my ability to enjoy their interpretations. Vasiliev in particular as he does not come across as nobility. In contrast I felt their Don Quichotte was spot on. Delightful dancing which matched their technical prowess. The grand PDD was weaker to be sure but the entire production was well worth it. During the production I too thought of Royal Ballet attempting this ballet and felt dread. I can think of none save Nunez who could be passable in this ballet. It is definitely not their style or comfort. I do not like the idea of pairing Nunez with McRae. Their bodies do not match and I would find the difference in line and form very distracting and unpleasant. I felt the same while watching Rojo with Muntagirov. I was surprised she cast him as her partner when they are so obviously different. For me I felt it enhanced what was not pleasant in their lines, musicality and form as opposed to highlighting their strengths. This is just me. I am particular in my narrow definition of "ballerina" and my expectations of world class companies, perhaps too much so.
  8. I don't blame Sergei for being under that impression. Many top dancers command a substantial guesting fee and he deserves to make to most of his talent. I don't believe in the starving artist mantra. He deserves the money many others command. For example Osipova and Vasiliev. Denying him guesting and over working him in the home company is a recipe for disaster. I know many will disagree but the dancers have a very short career and have to make the most of it. We live in a very global society and its very different now yet the mentality of many companies remain the same. Cocaine use especially among the men is not uncommon. It's terrible when one turns to that and I would not want to be a ballerina relying on them but it spells an underlying problem. For the men cocaine boosts energy and confidence as well as masking pain. This enables them to perform for us. Naturally a terrible position to be in but the pressure is intense.
  9. I've always assumed the difference may have been in the concentration level of the acid itself. If it was bought as a highly concentrated sulfuric acid or a simple homemade solution. The concentration level and therefore the damage it can have will differ. Though it does react with water in an exothermic reaction, to my knowledge diluting it with water is considered an appropriate method of dealing with it in an emergency situation.
  10. I read the article differently I guess. I did not read his statements as sniping at all. He probably does make two months salary in one gala performance. That is expected and he seems to be problem solving in a more mature manner. Leaving RB in the way he did was not proper but I am sympathetic. He was doing the majority of work due to injuries presumably without additional pay and not being allowed to guest. At that time it was announced that Vadim was going to ABT as a guest. I sympathize with Sergei. It would have been better for him to just wait for Dame Mason to leave but Mr O'hare seems to be righting some wrongs. I will be proud to see our angry son come home.
  11. http://m.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/russian-ballerina-says-she-is-not-involved-in-feud/article8102421/?service=mobile I am not sure I posted this link correctly. I agree however that the more about the inner drama of BT these incidents bring out the better it will be for the company overall.
  12. Birmingham Royal Ballets newest member Alys Shee was also privately coached by Evelyn Hart. It would seem she had extensive partnering experience as I saw her dance Grand Pas Classique in the Gala des Etoiles du XXIe siècle in Paris in jan 2012 and was astonished to learn she was only 16 or 17 at that time. Very polished and regal performance.
