PdL winner Lin Zhang is (no longer) missing
Jorgeb replied to Sabine0308's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Which social networks are publicising the situation? I haven't been able to find anything on Instagram or Facebook. I hope the young dancer is found and is okay. -

I can't find a single newspaper article on the subject. Very strange. -
Royal Ballet Cinderella March/April 2023

I am very curious to know what you think of the stepisters, James and Calvin. Why no one says anything about them or very little? I think they are the step-sister duo with the fewest mentions on the forum. Any reason for that?- 1,333 replies

Woolf Works - Royal Ballet March 2023
Jorgeb replied to Sim's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
The 2017 revival was relayed in cinema and later released on a DVD. I have the 2017 DVD and can confirm that the ballet ends with the pas de deux and Bonelli laying Alessandra Ferri down on the stage. -
Woolf Works - Royal Ballet March 2023
Jorgeb replied to Sim's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
The New York Times May 14, 2015 Review: ‘Woolf Works’ by the Royal Ballet Roslyn Sulcas «“Tuesday,” the third section of the ballet, opens with a recording of Woolf’s suicide note (read with limpid simplicity by Gillian Anderson). Squawking gulls and high-pitched children’s voices (the sound design is by Chris Ekers) are heard over slow piano chords as Ms. Ferri moves among a large ensemble, a video of the sea (by Ravi Deepres) moving in the slowest of slow motion overhead. Themes of “The Waves” — childhood, the passage of time, the cycle of life — are suggested with remarkable economy until finally Mr. Bonelli gently lays Ms. Ferri down, then retreats with the others into the darkness that awaits her.» Based on the 2015 description, I can't find a difference between the ending in 2015 - the premiere took place on 11 May 2015 - and the 2017 revival filmed and relayed in cinemas. -

I didn't see tonight's show, but I believe, based on the description, that the ending is the same as in 2017. It ended with the pas de deux with Bonelli laying Alessandra Ferri down onto the stage before disappearing into the background. While she is lying on the floor the lights go out. -
Letter To Tchaikovsky (with James Hay)
Jorgeb replied to MJW's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
The "letter scene" is one of the great monologues in the history of opera, the centerpiece of Evgeny Onegin - one of my favorite operas. In the letter scene, Tatiana goes through all emotions, from passion and ecstasy to despair and fear of rejection. Great choice, in my opinion, and an extraordinary display of James Hay artistry and sensibility. -

Royal Ballet's The Nutcracker, Winter 2022/3
Jorgeb replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
A modern dry ice machine should not cause any condensation, leave any oil residue, or make the stage floor wet and slippery dangerous. However, there are cases where accidents occurred during the production of the fog, as mentioned by Donald Thom, a former dancer of The Royal Ballet who currently dances with the National Ballet of Canada. In an interview, he says that his worst moment of embarrassment on stage was slipping about 5 meters wrapped in smoke with one leg stuck up in a set piece. Inadequate technology to produce the fog or some excess I suppose. What intrigues me is whether the drop in temperature affects ballet dancers, knowing that warming up the muscles is so important, but that`s not the subject of this thread.- 572 replies

Royal Ballet's The Nutcracker, Winter 2022/3
Jorgeb replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Dry ice is extremely cold - approximately -78 degrees C (-109 F). But when used to produce fog in theatrical or ballet productions, the fog produced doesn't have that temperature – which would be terrible for physical integrity. In any case, it produces a cooling of the temperature and perhaps someone with experience as a dancer can inform us about this issue.- 572 replies
