  1. Two friends went last year from her dance school and a few she knows through competing over the years that are also there. The group she auditioned with also set up a snap chat group, might be worth asking your DD if hers did the same.
  2. I agree I think it’s nice to share where you are cooking and eating, more sociable! I’m sure they will all make friends really quickly. I think my DD knows quite a few already.
  3. Thank you that’s interesting. A friend was in halls where the room has a bathroom and kitchenette and found it a bit lonely, so we are going to see if we can do a flat share type thing.
  4. We have an offer just making a final decision. DD loved it there, such a nurturing environment. Has the accommodation list been released?
  5. The UCAS deadline has just passed this week. We have been to several audition support days & open days in the lead up to making our choices and from doing the rounds I would say Wilkes, Performers, Urdang, Bird and the diploma at Laines do the most dance. They all understand the importance of ballet but it depends how much ballet your DD would really like to do. Mine adores ballet but wants to be doing all three disciplines (dancing/singing/acting) equally as she believes that will give her more rounded training and improve her prospects for work. I think with the MT courses you will struggle to find one that is heavily ballet based as the courses are quite determined by what is required by the industry the young performers want to work in.
  6. I’m not sure about that I’m afraid. We have our audition next Tuesday so a bit behind you with all of this x
  7. We had friends on the degree last year and they got letters.
  8. I have see results coming out on Instagram posts (obviously don’t know when they auditioned) so it can’t be too long now. Good luck!
  9. Just wondered if anyone applying for GSA had a recall yet?
  10. My DD also looks very young too and is only just over 5 ft. We’ve always been told that it’s a good thing as they can play much younger roles and don’t need chaperoning and also if they are shorter they are easy to partner with. I wouldn’t let that worry you. When they have makeup on they always look much older any way.
  11. We have a friend at Wilkes and she’s loving it. They have some awesome faculty members too. Good luck for the other auditions! X
  12. Sorry to hear it was a no this time and I hope your DD had a good time at Wilkes. We have that audition in two weeks as well. Does she have many more to go? If she’s a stronger dancer are you seeing anyone for the singing/acting side?
  13. I have been pondering this myself. At the moment I am trying my best to stay positive, however I’m acutely aware that it’s not likely that DD is going to get into every school she has applied for. Although I am maintaining the positive message, we have had the ‘what if it doesn’t happen’ conversation. Takeaways from that are that she will try again, work part time next year, take more classes and work on her weaker areas. Now with that being said it won’t do us well to dwell on it, so she is going to give it her all and see what happens. Had someone told me even in September that it’s harder to get into Drama school than medicine I might have encouraged her down a different path. Not that she would have listened though and that’s the beauty of theatre kids they are tenacious and they need to be. I really hope your DD can brush off the disappointment and get back on the horse.
  14. Of course, I’ve booked the Travelodge Farringdon for Urdang, there is a Premier Inn nearby too. DH has booked one for one of the others I’ll find out which one
  15. Thanks everyone, I’ve taken your advice and booked the hotels for the ones in London. The one an hour from us I think I’ll drive in on the morning
  16. We’ve said the same. We are happy for her to apply to as many as she would like to but she’s aware that it may boil down to funding. Got to be in it to win it though I say!
  17. Any opinions on whether it is best to drive up on the day of the auditions or to stay the night before? I keep going back and forth. Whether it’s better to sleep in your own bed and get up early or to stay and feel less stressed about the journey?
  18. We are applying to 8, 5 through UCAS, the diploma at Laines. Arts Ed and Mountview separately. I’m hoping that if you through enough mud at the wall some of it will stick! Here’s hoping any way. I expect if she gets offers at her top two she will also stop and accept those so that she can concentrate on her A-levels. We’ve got a spreadsheet too which is helping with deadlines at least for auditions so she can focus on the one ahead and then move onto the next one. I’ll be relieved when this process is over.
  19. Yes it seems to have when I can get on the site. I was so grateful for this thread as it’s hard to get much information apart from chatting to a few parents locally. Dd has done Emil Dale already and we have Urdang, Performers, Wilkes, GSA, Laine, Arts Ed and Mountview lined up. She’s a dancer but she has a good voice.
  20. Thank you for starting this thread. I too was following the Notapushymum thread, so this is great. We have only just started the audition process for 2022 degree in take. One audition down so far and the rest next year. Fingers crossed that they are in person and not remotely. Good luck to everyone auditioning.
