It's a difficult one... We have had 4 on mds but only ever 3 at any one time. Iwe decided if we let one and the others earned their place we would have to find a way to make it happen... But it has been and still is a huge financial mountain from which we won't recover as we head towards retirement I am glad we have given each their chance though. The sensible thing would have been to say no after 2....

I think talking to the schools is the best thing:) good luck xx

We have but I have never been able to work it out. It seems to be more complicated...and more expensive when they are at different schools as u lose things like sibling discount. It is very expensive!

In the past when my kids did it about 15 were they from each age group to finals. From those 5or 6 got into the company and some offered tours... But it might be different now. -

Happy to hear everyone's good news. Sad times for us as, after many years of doing it with 4 of my kids, my youngest is now too old. Still it was lovely to see so many lovely dancers at the auditions. Good luck everyone for finals. To get that far is a real achievement when so many auditioned xx -
Just a thought... In the past some children who are performing have stayed with school friends who live closer. That could help ease the financial implications.

No the company does not provide accommodation. Like Hambleton, I did a fair few years of this...about 6 or 7... So I really sympathise:)

I too agree with Sim's comments. I loved the first three pieces...especially the pas de deux with McCrae and Salenko who were sheer delight together. I found myself dozing off a bit in Carmen, sadly....

More than 5 from each group get through the first round to the recall... There could be over 20 in the recall across 2 groups that are joined together. From this about half are invited to the final audition. From the final about 5 of each age group taken into the company. The Artistic Director is also looking for children to take part in Lcb tours from the finalists...an amazing experience. Good luck everyone! -

The good thing to know is that all auditionees are offered a masterclass... A great experience x -
A yes for my 14 yr old dd today too. Looks like there will be a few forum members at Dance Attic. We should have a signal.....

Last year really opened my eyes. At one point a freak accident suddenly saw us faced with the possibility of the dancing dream being over. I realised all our eggs were in the one basket. Thankfully my dd had an excellent batch of gcses behind her so a plan b wasn't out of the question. While it is fab to get a place at dance schools, I am feeling more cynical these days as there are lots of graduating dancers and very few jobs. It is a very hard year... I remember my dd crying with exhaustion... But I would recommend a balance. A compromise with the school could be the way forward. Good luck to your dd with it all.

And so the cycle starts again for a whole new cohort stepping out on an adventure...

In dd's voc school they do inter in year 9 ( no IF) and just do one class a week.

When my son auditioned he did three days as they cut down from hundreds to principals. They told him he would hear in a month or so. I took it that meant a no as I was sure they would say on the day.... But just before a month way up he got an email to say he had been successful. Contract followed afterwards. Hope this helps
