  1. My DS is at Elmhurst year 7, he is very happy. He has always been towards the top end academically and feels both challenged and supported. The communication has been really good with regular reports, parents reviews, we are just due another. Boarding has been excellent he has been very fond of his house parents who are in contact as and when is needed. So as parents we have no complaints at all.

For us one of the issues is accessing good quality local training. There are lots of recreational dance schools but they only offer maybe 2-3hrs ballet training a week. There are some excellent private teachers but they are in high demand so managing to get a class (and get there and back) isn't always easy. And that would still only be about 1hr a week.

I don't see how it's possible to get local training that is anything near as good as vocational schools can offer. I don't want my DD to go to boarding school but she is desperate for more intensive training and I don't see any viable options for her getting it outside of vocational school.

I am in the same kind of boat with my DC they are also thinking about the academic side of things as well as being able to access quality training. The schools round here are weak academically and we have to travel to get decent training, and the prices of coaching is expensive, so our choice took all that into consideration. No parent wants to willingly send their child away to school we will miss our child immensely but we are equally happy with the chosen schools ethos and my child is looking forward to his journey. We are under no illusion that he will stay put there could be a number of things that arise in the next however many years . My hope is that all schools have a healthier approach to well being and the students happiness not just their physicality.

I hope PCR tests are a little cheaper now. It’s my DS’s 10th birthday the day before they go on the Sunday. He will be super annoyed if his main birthday present is a PCR test 😂

It's my sons 10th birthday the day he goes on week 3 he is ecstatic about spending his birthday night there!

This might sound ridiculously premature, but I'm curious as to what dates people think vocational school applications might look like for Y7 entry in September 2022.

I'm presuming that dates and deadlines for this current application year might have been extended to offset some of the extraordinary challenges applications for September 2021 entailed. I do seem to remember posts saying deadlines were aligned from the major schools as a consequence of the challenges bought by lockdowns and Covid, but have they been wildly different in the past?

As a Y5 parent, I have anxiously followed the journey of all the current Y6 children and their parents/guardians, and am probably amongst the many people who learn a great deal from those in the year above.

But I'm curious what dates/deadlines might have been like 'pre-covid', to try and get some rough idea of what the application/audition season might be like for the next academic year, and what dates we might be working towards.

I'm sure the autumn 21 term will be upon us in the blink of an eye, and this suddenly wont feel quite so premature!

So glad you posted this as it had crossed my mind.

Hi there, I’m new to the forum due to be a complete novice with a ballet dancing son! I’m now panicking that we had an email yesterday offering a place for the RBS Sumer intensive after a waiting list place as I’ve just read the issues people have had with being told it’s a mistake! Has anyone had an email recently???

    i'm nervous now.
